Has anyone moved there batteries forward out of the rear bilge area to the front of the boat. Yesterday talked to a old guy who was one of the first boston whaler dealers in fla, sells edgewater boats now. Said he knows of 3 mako boats that took water in the cockpit it flooded the bilge area the saltwater caused the batteries to short out, no bilge pump and the boats went down. Says your looking for trouble with the batteries down in the hole by the bilge pump. Mine are on a flat area right above the bilge pump...He said alot of boat builders are moving there batteries forward nearer the helm, and further from the rear of the boat. also might help in getting the bow down with more weight up front. My 2 batteries are on a small shelf inside the hatch cover made out of starboard... Z

Hey Zebra, thats my next project. My 88 has batteries in the same location. I think I'm going to move them into that storage well between the seats. I'm thinking that the switch will go there as well. I like the idea of having the switch as near as possible to the batteries.

I was going to this also untill people told me that being up front would make them bounce around more do to the pounding action? Would this break up the cells? With that all said a still would like to do it it, makes sence to balance boat better?

Zebra, if you keep your V in the water, then it's probably a concern, but if she lives on the trailer like mine, I wouldn't sweat it...I think the oldtimer was talkin' about boats kept in the water...
...on the other hand, if you do keep it in the water, will your batteries fit in the space just BELOW the liners in the transom hatches...if so, I'd build in support for them there instead of movin' them forward...

I keep it in water May thru Dec. I'm getting transom and stringers repaired this winter. Want to fix eeverything at one time. I don't use the floor wells for anything right now anyway. *I want to put bracket on back also. Should it be a bolt on or have one built in with new transom like the V-21's. I have a73

you can move the batterys were ever you want, and have space.
There is some one here that has moved theirs alreay, but I forgot who.
As for the bracket, bolt on will be easier and cheaper then having one built on?
Just make sure you tell the transom builder that you are going to add a bracket so that he can build it strong for the weight!
Good Luck

hopefully, he was planning on building it strong anyway. but mj is right. a lot of these guys will do just enough to get by. make sure it is as strong as possible. not just 'strong enough'.

If at all possible take the boat and bracxket there at the same time, Have him build and install the bracket for you.
Make sure you tell him that there will be a 550 pounds of motor and bracket hanging there!!
If its a good shop they will no what and how to do it!!
Then when you get it back all you have to do is hang the motor.
