hope it's ok to ask a question about a 20' fisherman :-) I'm wanting to repower from an in-line 1974 150hp merc to an '05 150 saltwater series merc. my "spec" plate is unreadable. can any one out there tell me what the max hp on this hull is?? i am concerned about the new (?) hp ratings and heavier weights of these late model engines. anyway thanks in advance if you can help. ps great forum here!!

i know its 235hp on most of the newer boats. i think it was for 74 also but, not sure. maybe one of the members with an older boat can confirm that. with that said i know you can hang any 150 on there no prob. that is prob the most common configuration for that boat. just make sure you got a solid transom, no ,matter what size motor you run. welcome aboard and be sure to post some pics of ur rig. we like pics

This says 150 Max on a '75 and my bet is your '74 is the same...I'm a little surprised as I was thinkin' it would be 200...

Welcome to the board...post some pix of yours when you can...doesn't matter what condition...believe me, we've seen it all ;) ...

Larry you will be fine . Back then your 150 was the big kid on the block . Very often the mid to early 70's boats were riged with twin 70's or 85's. Your boat will have no problem with the weight or H.P. . It may even weigh less .
