howdy i want to redo my dashboard here is a picture of my dash it is not the most accurate because its about a year old and i have added a new vhf radio to the port con and an xmradio system to the port con the loran is gone. but what i want to do is incorperate all that stuff over to the starbored side and input the vhf radio and gps into the dash to make it look flush and replace the instraments (spelling?)and move them around to fit everything. Tell me what you think here is the picture i have ( i might take it out tomarrow and have a fresh picture) but until then here you go:

Fishbone...think about this...just above your wheel, the dash goes flat for several inches, then angles up (where all your gauges are now)...what if you take a piece of 1/2'' Starboard and cut to fit over the entire dash from top to just in front of the wheel...fill in sides w/ triangles of Starboard...then you got a big, single surface to flush- mount all you want...little gauges across bottom, FF and tach up top maybe w/ room for flush VHF...once ya get the new cut and fitted, cut away all existing dash for clearance behind new...leave just enough ''lip'' around outter edges to screw from underneath to catch new...just a thought... ;) ...

Either way sounds good and it'll get ya lots more room... ;) 8) ...
...if ya wanna get ALL the room ya got, from 1/2'' Starboard cut a ''gusset'' that fits/ attaches just inside side windshield to support widening dash (as mentioned above) to go across open space now between dash and side-window...would add several inches width to whole thing... ;) ...

would you think it is smart to put another blue double seat on the starboard side
and then move the chair that is already there to someplace by the stern and make it removable kinda like a fishing chair or captans chair just gettin your opinon because i would do that my self.

what i decided i am going to do is use the same dashboard but star over.
i will need starbored where do i buy that?
i will have the gps and vhf mounted flush were the instrements used to be but have the tach put inbetween them and put the little ones on the 3" slot right above the sterring wheel( which i am replacing also) then have new seats put in and reuse the captains chair and make it a fighter chair since it is only three months old. i will convert the port con into a chart holder and probable replave the glove box door. this is my plan now tell me what you think and i will keep you guys pposted with the progress thanks *for all yer help.

8 min off o well ;)
I am here back at work now!! :'(
I Hate back to back seats!! I pulled mine out and tossed as soon as I got the boat home!!
But I wanted fishing room! I have the drivers seat rigged so I remove the seat and post completely when I want. I like to drive standing then I move to were ever I want to fish.
But you must do more curzing then me needing double.
I like the big boat also!! you eaither very lucky to have 2 boats or have you have 2 headache??

Fishbone...you gotta set it up to suit the way you use it...if mine (like MJ), I'd toss the double, put another Capt's chair on port side and have two folders to carry passengers when needed...

How many people usually on your boat? I would do like RAP suggested, add another capt.'s chair to the port side, it will increase your cockpit size! Portables when you need more seating, but that's me........whatever floats YOUR boat ;)

I'm with MJ Tin and RAP. Lose the back to backs and go with cap. chairs on port and starboard. You got a bigger boat (= more seating) for cruising! Keep the V20 setup for fishing! JMO
By the way, I love the ladder back Todd chair you have at your helm - I wouldn't change a thing there - but if you decide to get rid of it, how about shipping it down here to NC ;D

i don't do much fishing when ever i go boating i usally have five to seven people onboard and when i fish i take the big one when ever i fish i can be gone for two or more days and there are more comforts of home on the big one ( tv A/C heat stove etc) thats why i have two. so i need more seats not fishing room. but what if a bought another todd chair for the port side would you reccommend that better thatn thw twin bact to back seats.
thanks.

Yea Tin, only problem is they are hard to come by.
In case you haven't seen it, here it is again. I picked it up for $50 from member TMcGovern (thanks buddy ;)).
Has a welded stainless steel frame - that was worth the $50 to me. I fashioned it so I could take it out if I want. Kinda cool cause you can sit it on the dock and have instant dock seating too! Then put back in the boat and motor away for a cruise!

i have thoses but when there is two people up front and two people sitting in the stern chairs she WILL NOT GET ON PLANE. every body has to stand up front and i would like to make it more comfy for them so that why i need the double back seats. * until i get an engine with more power it terns out in sted of 225 i have a 125 horse power i/o they made a typo on the regerstration.

When I got my boat It had a 165 mercuriser I/O which was close to 120 at the prop.
But with a 15 X 15 1/4 prop I use to get on plane with 8 people on board, it was slow getting there but it would do it.
What are you turning for a prop?? Thats why I have aways used that prop even after I switched to OB, and more HP.
fishbonejr
10-18-2006, 07:50 PM
i loved my old engine but i had to replace it one day because it through a rod. i did't now that the measured at the engine and not the prop do they still do that or has that changed. so i dont know if that rating is at the engine or prop but i still will never get on plane the top speed i can get is maby 14 knots with me at the wheel and two people in the back. but even if i got the back to back seats do you still think that it would not get on plane with every body sittin up front. o and i stated the dash board i will post pics of the progress later this weekend.
macojoe
10-18-2006, 10:27 PM
I/O HP is at the prop not the motor.
Old O/B was also at the prop, but todays O/B motors are HP at the motor.
I still think you should reprop? Will get better, but still going to have issues if your motor is that small, and that many people on board.

Fishbone...what prop you got??...even w/ only 120hp she oughtta get up on plane and stay there w/ several people on...have ya got a workin' tachometer and do ya know the MAX recommended RPMS from the mfgr?...sounds like your motor in bad need of tune-up or other repair OR boat needs re-propping OR both... ;)...are ya gettin' fire on all cylinders?...
fishbonejr
10-19-2006, 10:35 PM
not sure what prop but the engine has only got anout 20 hours on it would i need a tune up or is somthing else wrong but about the cilinders my last engine it was a six cylinder and this one is a four cylinder and it is the second new engine i have tried. i only had to pay for one but the first one i had that was the problem it was only runnin on three cylinders but thisone has had a compression test and all four are firin. but what prop should i order. i do have a workin tach and get about 3800 rpm WOT i am not sure what the max reccommended rpm is. thanks
reelapeelin
10-19-2006, 11:05 PM
Do some lookin' around to find out what Max RPMs you should be able to turn...it's KEY to makin' sure you got the right prop...
If motor change took you from 6 cyl to 4 cyl a prop change could most likely be in order...less torque, less hp?...need to know ;) :) ...
fishbonejr
10-19-2006, 11:33 PM
ok i will do that
just out of curisoty what would you guys think if someone put nitrus oxcide on their engine i saw it in the boating magazene it was an old issue (july 2002) but what would that do to an i/0 ses it adds 100 hp and 10mpg.
p.s. i dont like this new engine and am probable going to replace it next season. the engine is ecanomical ( spelling *???) but not very powerful i like power and *do not really care about economy kind of like comparing a hybrid to a hemi *i would much rather have the hemi.

On my boat I use a 15 1/4 X 15 it has a lot of torque and works well for me.
Do you have a Hydrofoil on the motor?? That helps alot!!
Are you sure you are getting full throttle?? Make sure of that first.
My mariner alowed me to talk to them, then they recomended a prop, they let me try, if no good and still perfect they would swap for the next size till I got what I wanted. I used 3 props.
Over all a 14 1/2 X 17 worked, but I always felt like I was spinning my tires when getting out the hole.
Thats when we found the 15 and now out the he great!! little slower on the top end, I use o get 40- 43 mph now I get 36-40 depending on the load.
