View Full Version : My boat is in the shop...

the canvas shop that is. While I'm out of town for work I'm getting a new enclosure built. I got to see the materials and we went over the plans. Should be done mid week coming up. It's going to be a little brighter blue than I wanted, but then maybe mine was dirty? Went with 40 gauge vinyl for the winders.

There will be no straps as it will be supported by poles front and back. Pics will be up soon, then again, I've got pics to post for my last fishing trip as well.

nice goin' Air, I have poles on the back supports, straps on the front. The poles keep things tight and rigid and when you want to get some sun or just have it out of the way, for whatever reason, she'll tilt backward and out of the way. If you haven't already done so.....get the zippered "boot" for the top ;)

Turbo, I went with a canvas top again. I was looking at 4500 - 5500 for what I wanted on the hardtop. I'm having mine done for a really good price. Rodney Banks is doing the work. He should have me done this week. Pics will be coming mid-week.

Slot...ya doin' alum or SS frame...plastic or SS frame-fittings?...

...reason I ask is, if ya go plastic fittings and alum. frame, have him put screws into BOTH side of the fitting...at speed, this will hold better ;) ...

...go ahead, ask me how I know :o ::) ...

...and either way, get the little snap-on plastic stand-offs that keep your new ''glass'' away from fittings and screw-heads... ;) ...

Cy, I didn't get to fish much this year due to very busy at work and some family medical issues. Next year will be busier at work, but I'm looking to get back on track with the fishies. We've sold the Albemarle so I may be fishing inshore more next year, but I plan to put a hurtin on em.

Hot digity dogs, my canvas guy is out of bed from the flu finally. He ain't on top of the world yet, bet he's feeling better. The frame modifications are done. He's disassembled the frame for now and is sewing the top. He says top will be done by Monday and curtains will be done this week. We are hoping for a completed project on Dec 25. ;D I didn't have the camera with me, but there really wasn't anything to take pics of. There will be no straps on this top. We have support poles front and rear where the straps used to be. Other than that, there was a pile of material on the sewing table and a roll of 40ga vinyl in the corner.

Shore Power, leave me and Turbo a few fish ;D

you can also do what I think Phatdaddy has done to protect his glass.....foam pipe insulation around the supports. May not be the sportiest look.., but I bet it works well.

I found a website - perfectfit.com - that has all kinds of hardware for cheeeeep prices. The window spacers are like .84 each. The stainless mounts are 3-4 bucks versus the 15 each I paid at worst marine yesterday. Those by the way are going back.

Talked w/ my top guy and the actual top is done. :) He figured the windshield panel would be done last night :) :) and that he would tackle the sides by mid-week and the back drop curtain by the weekend. ;D

Oh yeah, got wood? Can't wait to show this thing off. It has all kinds of well thought out features, such as storm flaps that cover the zippers and other seems to keep water out. Well thought out use of velcro, and some other nifty stuff that I have since forgotten. ;)

If ya can't tell, I'm ready to get my ride back. The people that work with me really wish I'd go feeshin ;D

I have heard of good and bad on the zipper covers??

Some say they hold the moister longer, and corroding the zippers, must take extra care of them to insure that this doesn't happen.

Sounds nice!! I am jealous and haven't even seen it yet!

Airslot
12-21-2006, 11:20 PM
Yep, I'm getting a back drop/curtain also. I was in his shop again tonight. Not much work done as we were solving lifes problems over a brew ;) I had given him an idea and he ran with it. Now I'm not so sure but, whats done is done. I had suggested that since where the plastic rubs the Al support poles (plastic always turns black there) that he seem in a piece of material that would ride the poles. Have to see how it looks when it's done. If you scroll back up to the second pic, the pole that goes from windshield frame to rear main hoop will have a piece of sunbrella that rides along the pole to save the plastic. Actually, it will probably look fine. I had forgotten that it was my idea. Overall I'm so happy with his work that I can't stand it. We also gave him a good piece of change as an early Christmas bonus. That was wifey's idea, but who can't use a little extra money right before Christmas? ;D
