Well I finally got to go visit my V-20 in the daytime so I could get some good pictures of the transom mods that I am having done ;D.
So far the the outerskin was removed and the rotted wood taken out. 2 layers of plywood were fitted into place and install with epoxy resin and SS screws. On the inside a third layer of plywood was installed where the notch used to be for extra strength. Right now all is being sealed in with fiberglass.
Next comes the deck and closing in the transom box to make a good place for the batteries and fuel filter.

School's found that sometimes there's a "%20" mixed in with the link. Dunno why that seems to get thrown in there, but several people have had that problem.

example :http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t270/2ndchance_2007/Wellcraft2207004.%20jpg

just remove the %20 and the pic should post.

Reelapeelin, that is a very long list. As far as the transom goes the entire top of the area where the notch was is going to be covered. A front piece will be put in with 2 access doors to get to the inside where I am going to put my batteries and fuel filters. I will have to figure a way to ventelate that area discreetly. 2 inch and a half scuppers are being installed to replace the deck drains that were in the splash well. A 10 X 20 deck hatch will be installed just aft of the fuel tank to give me access to the bilge area.

Looks good, did you glass that skin back on using matt and resin till you filled it all in from the grinding?

What is the filler you are using (the brown stuff)??

Before you finish the in side are you going to add some knee boards from the stringers to the transom for extra support??

Keep up the good work!

How did you reattached the outter skin to the new wood. SS screws ?? I cant see just by wetting the wood and skin with West Ststem that all the edges wouldnt pop out. Of were clamps used. ??? Any pics. of that at all.
Still a great job your doing. ;)

I am not doing the work myself so a lot of the technical questions I really can't answer. Thats why I took it to a professional. From the few times I've been able to get out there and talking to Vick (My Glass man) he told me that all the wood was bedded in an epoxy paste and screws and clamps were used to hold it all together while the epoxy cured. He then used fiberglass matt on all the joints and to make a new skin on the areas where the new wood is. As far as the old skin that he put back on the boat he used a bed of epoxy and screws from what I've been able to see. I believe the brown stuff is an epoxy based filler so he can sand it all smooth but like I said he's the pro and he seems to be doing it right from what I've seen and the little that I know about glass work and boat repair. I will say this, it is as solid as a rock and he isn't completely done tying it all together.

That's a good question RAP.

Since the transom guy is a pro, I imagine he would also be aware of the fact that the degree of angle on the bracket ought to be close as possible to the angle degree of your new transom. In other words, make sure he's doing your new transom in such a way that you'll still be able to use your old bracket without any problems or jerry-rigging. Otherwise, you may have to put out some bucks for a new bracket. Something I'm sure you wouldn't want to do after forking out the bucks for the new transom and all the other stuff you have ahead of you. Just a thought...

Everything sounds and looks good so far though. Keep us posted on the progress. I think you're going to be really happy with her when she's finished.

Hammer sorry but the bracket is already back under lock and key, but maybe I need to put some barbed wire around the shops compound ;D. The reason that I brought it to him was so we could lift it up to the transom to make sure the flat was large enough and it was. Hopefully Hammer the next picture you see of the bracket it will be hanging on the back of the 2ndchance :).
