I like the stero mounting station. How much for the mount ??. Was it hard to hook up ?
Something I want to do as well. Wifey took out the mp-3 player and it stopped working. Salt air ? or something.

Not much progress has been made since. I have the inner linner detached from the sides of the hull, but I still have to seperate it from the stringers before I can lift it out so nothing new that's picture worthy yet. Hopefully that'll change soon! :D

The mounting box was already in there and i replaced a 16 year old cassette player. The box is only a little larger & deeper than the radio. That is 2 strips of starboard 3/4 x 2 1/2 to lower it so you can reach it. The gap above makes a great place to store charts.
The cd player came from west marine and it comes with 2 speakers. all you need is a 12 vt power source. pretty basic stuff. It was on clearance for $150. am\fm\cd\weather band. it also has a jack to hook a mp3 player to it.

Getting old Jeff, thought you had the V-21 and the one who sold me the enclosure for my V-20.
Look at our gallery, there is a 1970 V-20 project. Same tear down as yours. Great pictures of teh tear down and glass work.

While i was messing around in the cabin, I also attempted to straighten out the snarful of wires under the dash. *I moved the terminal boards for + & - out onto the cabin ceiling and had a larger canvas flap made to hide & protect. *I still have a snarful but it is my snarful.

Nice, but your son is right...cds are old school!!
I have a cd player that takes an sd card, aux port for my MP3 or a USB jump drive. I pull my sd card loaded with music from my Palm (phone) (or plug it directly into the stereo) and pop it in the truck stereo. I never use the cd player on it at all.
Next I want one for the boat....no more skipping cds while bumpin across the waves! 8)
I can keep hundreds of songs on a card the size of a quarter! Why bother with cds? :D

I really got this for the am radio. The nearest station that carries pro football on sunday aft is WWL in New Orleans. The old one had analog tuning & this one has digital, so the signal is alot cleaner.

I got the new pump in today. wasn't too cold outside.
This is the old pump on a shelf I made to set it above the bilge pump, but below the deck level
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/ffatdaddy/freshwaterpump1.jpg
shelf out with pump. *I made it so it sets on & over the stringers, so no drilling to stringers
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/ffatdaddy/freshwaterpumpremoved.jpg
Handyman, I put 3" pvc tubes between the gunnells and the outer hull below the rod boxes. *Capped both ends and put a tru hull in the cap. I tied both together at the pump, which is the lowest point of the set up. *I fill on the port side through the stand pipe under the boxes. *Capacity is about 5.5 gallons. *not very much but dosen't take up any room and is always in balance.

Whats the deal with all the pvc piping again ???

MJ, we are dealing w/ a pretty smart guy here. Thats his freshwater washdown system. If ya want fresh water to wash yer hands or equipment at the end of the trip, he's got it. That is a great storage system for the water as well. Way to use the old noggin PHAT.

Thanks air. I used to install irrigation systems on golf courses. all the courses were out of town, so i had free access to scrap PVC and a lot of time on the road to think of what it do with it.
Hammer, its a fresh water wash down. I installed a hatch in the deck to access the large empty space between the fish box and the cabin and was going to put a tank there, but ran into fabrication problems and plumbing issues. I had the rod boxes out one time and noticed the long skinny cavity under them and thought saddle tanks. It would be nice to have more capacity.the great thing about the pump location is it is a flooded suction. the water is already going downhill to the pump, no priming issues.

RAP,Its on the spring list of thing to do. *I probably ought to remove and go premix, but love the convenience...... til it pukes. *I had an evinrude 235 with the first version of their VRO. *it took me a long time to ever trust oil injection again. I repowered in 94 and bought this motor brand new. *It showed 1100 hours on the meter last month, i know others don't like merc, but so far i'm happy.
Stink, thanks for the picture. it takes me a while. I remember when a kraco 4 track from wt grants was state of the art.

Hey Phat, if ya weren't so far south I may have used you. I've built 4 golf courses in my carreer and done two major rehabs. All told, 7 irrigation systems at 6 different courses. I've also done a buttload of irrigation repairs in my time and, like you, have a little scrap PVC around all the time.

Air, where are you located? We worked from new orleans to orlando and north to birmingham. When we started out all we would install is toro hydraulic. In this part of the south lightning was hammering the elec systems. We put our last hyd system in 93 and then installed toro & rainbird elec till 99. I was working with my dad & he retired in 00. My kids were growing up and i was on the road mon-fri, so i quit doing major jobs and now i do res-com and golf course control conversions, usually old hyd systems to toro osmac.

I'm around Ocean City, MD and spent five years in Ohio. When I got to where I'm at now, we had Toro hyd that had been in service since 1972. We changed out to a new rainbird system. 18 months later we did a major renovation on the golf course and the architecht put in Toro. I've been with a Golf Professional or Superintendant, or both for a long time. The last two years I've gotten away from the maintenance end and more towards the General Manager realm of responsibilities.

PS I understand the lightning issues, but I abhor Normally Open Hydraulic Irrigation. I'll probably have nightmares tonight just thinking about it.

We had a lot of work for about 10- 12 years, then the course building boom eased a little. we were independent irrigation contractors, now most builders have in house crews. I ve worked on courses for 30 years and have played 1 game of golf in my life and that was in 1975. Great game , just takes too much time from fishing.

What did I ask a question http://syncboard.com/albums/album02/100_G.gif
II will now, On that pump you got there, will it draw water up the hose lets say 12" and prime its self?? I have 2 here and was thinking I could use one for a bilge pump, Cause I have no room for one down there right now.
phatdaddy
03-02-2007, 01:30 AM
MJ, i'm not sure, I replaced the sureflo with a west marine brand pump. my water tanks are higher than the pump, so it is naturally self priming.I don't think that they would make good bilge pumps. washdown pumps are high pressure, low volume. bilge pumps are low pressure, high volume. from what i remember of your previous post, any pump would be an improvement.

So Phat, you can fill both water tanks through one fill cap? Are the PVC tanks attached to the gunnels or outter hull at all? Or do they just sit in there?
Sweet idea!
phatdaddy
03-09-2007, 09:52 AM
blue, there is a fill on the port side at the rear of the tube. I was going to put a fill pipe on the gunnell rail, bur decided to just put a pvc cap on a stand pipe. to access I just lift the transom hatch and fill. it flows to both sides equally. on the cap toward the bow end of the tube i put a vent hose. it works great, both sides draw down equally so balance is not a problem
this is the fill http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e203/ffatdaddy/freshwatertankport.jpg
the 3" pvc fits snug between the liner and outer hull on the deck supports. I did take some plumbers strapping(thin metal straps with holes) and tied it to the liner inside the rod boxes. I also put a piece of carpet where the tube touches the outer hull to keep it from rubbing. hard to explain, next time the rod boxes are out i'll take a pic.

Ok, thread revival here - two questions:
Say I want to use my Cellphone SD card to play mp3's in the boat. *
1) Do I need to get one of these radios like stink shows with the slot for the sd card? How much do they cost and is there a cheaper alternative?
2) Where the heck should I mount speakers? *The rod boxes are the only place I can think of that would be easy to cut out a hole and mount speakers.
Suggestions from our V-20 systems analysts? Wifey wants tunes - gotta give her tunes!

"Say I want to use my Cell phone SD card to play mp3's in the boat."
It depends on your cell phone. Most phones use the MINI SD and wont. I have a Treo 650 which uses a reg. SD and mine will interchange with my radio, cameras, etc... *
"1) Do I need to get one of these radios like stink shows with the slot for the SD card? How much do they cost and is there a cheaper alternative?"
Way cheaper than anything you have priced I promise. Its hard to get a decent CD player (even a Pioneer or equivalent) for under 120 bucks
The radio I pictured above is only 79.00!!!
Here is the link:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4744710
Now they even have one with Blue tooth for 150!! Sweet!
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5645793
I know the price is low and I was skeptical at first too because these are the people (Virtual Reality Sound) *who actually bought out the "Road master" name. They were POS electronics for sure. Not the VR folks and here is why:
I decided to try it for the $$ though and after owning all the big names in stereo equipment (Pioneer, JVC, Sony, Clarion, *etc...) I have to say I am VERY impressed with it. I have had one in my truck for over a year now and I want one for the boat next. Very nice !!
BTW the POINEER cd player will come out for one of these to go in. ;)
