I am doing outboard conversion on a 1975 CC. There are no scuppers or cockpit drains. Havent had it in the water so I dont know where the cockpit floor is relative to the waterline but I assume that if the floor was high enough wouldn't the manufacturer have used cockpit drains? If scuppers or floor drains can't be added I was going to use a grate after I cover where the motor box was (and found a salvage grate to buy now but dont want to buy it if self draining was possible). Anyone deal with that issue? thanks again for the help.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "grate" but I doubt you'd be able to make it self bailing without raising the floor, but of course I'm not the CC expert - or the cuddy expert - or the dually expert - matter of fact I'm no expert! ;) 8) ;D

obviously Im not either- but it looks like it would drain but if it didnt it would be a waste and I figured that had been addressed before. THe "grate" is just a teak flush hatch that lets deck water into bildge where it can go out a bilge pump or drain plug.

the older boats like ares (1975 Cuddy here) had a lower deck then the newer boats.
I don't think you are going to be able to do it? I have wanted to do it to mine but with the floor tanks it is almost impossible to stop all the water!

Add to bilge pumps, one low one high and you should be fine.

1st question...some have refered to Cuddy Cabins as CCs ... I think of CCs as Center Consoles, so not 100% sure which yours is??...

Either way, I agree w/MJ...on that year model, you'd have to raise the entire floor-deck to make a self-bailer of her ... and then install all the plumbin' needed, so if it's that high a priority for you, I reely suggest gettin' a newer hull that came from the factory that way ...I like yer idea of an open grate over the motor-hole, but like MJ suggests, a coupla strong bilge-pumps under the grate should take care of ya!! ;) ...

Whatcha repowering with?...

Got any V-20 pictures??...we view those for free 8) ...
although there's a nominal charge for viewing non-V-20 pix

If i'm not mistaken...................the V's had self bailing cockpits starting in 1978.

Nope, must be later, my '78 drains into the bilge. I'm thinking it was in the '80's before they made em self bailing.

Thanks. I knew that had been dealt with before by you guys and saved me lots of pondering. Mine is a 1975 center console that was headed to the boneyard even though solid. Sounds like the experts know that the deck is lower than the 80s versions, so no self drain on this one as I already have my hands full. Repowering with outboard someday, once I get that engine out without pulling down a tree, etc. Started taking pictures and I will post once I figure out how. Will have lots more questions at each step as I attempt to set up the an off shore boat as cheap as is possible and thanks in advance. Its going to be awesome if my attention span holds out.

a friend of mine installed a sump in the bilge of his old Formula. He made the sump out of a rubbermaid storage box with thru hull fittings, he let the cockpit drains feed into the sump(sump mounted below deck) then installed a 2500 gph pump with auto switch inside the sump that pumped the water overboard. The idea is the cockpit will drain into the sump but not the actual bilge, the sump had a cover on it to prevent water from coming out of the sump. Thsi kept the bilge separte from water coming in from the cockpit. The bilge had its own separate bilge pump and switch. Just one more idea to ponder over
