I've been pretty silent recently, but your gallery got me curious about something. In poking around my V20 I had the idea of removing the entire cap from the boat to get to the transom, stiffen under the cap, rerun wiring, etc.

Did you look into this route and decide to just cut off the stearn section? I was not sure how feasible it was, but it didn't look impossible.

I probably should have done that because I was only screwed on. but you will need some help and space getting that off. you just have to look at what will be easer, for me I just planned to redo the transom so cutting it was easer for me than lifting the whole cap off but after haveing to get into the whole boat I shold have just pulled the whole cap off.

Where are you going to use the boat. I see your in Greenville, I'm in Augusta. Are you taking it all the way to the coast, or just the lakes?

I take it to Charleston. I haven't had this boat down there yet but I can't wait. Now I have a boat that I can venture a little further out with that is great with the waves.

are you planning to go back with the IO or a bracket with an OB. the transom looks a little wet from looking at your pictures have you tapped on the stringers you can see from the engine compartment to see if they are solid? The one thing I found with mine is that they did not use any mat fiberglass under the heavy wolven glass and it was all lifted from the wood which could trap water. One thing that I was impressed with was the hull was all hand layed with heavy fibergalss wolven cloth and not just a sprayed chopped glass boat. With the long runs of wolven cloth makes the boat a lot stronger by distributing the shock through out the long strands in the cloth.

The stringers are bad up to about 18" from the transom. From there forward they have some bad spots, but are o.k. Probably not worth replacing in a boat of this age.
The transom is shot. After looking into the cost of brackets, outboards, controls, misc. etc, etc, etc, I cooled off on the idea of starting this thing immediately. Its stored in a dry area, so I've put it to the side for now.
