Gallery Back online + Important Announcement.

I am pleased to announce that the Gallery is back online and that the annoying Gallery login problem no longer exists.

Important Announcement:

1. We need more space:

The current hosting plan that I have only allows for 50mb of space. We are currently using 40mb, so that give us only 10mb of space to play with.

Solution: (short and Long Term)

Short term:

I really want to avoid another disaster like this past week, so I am temporarily cracking down on the file size of pics being uploaded to the gallery.

Pics => must be under 200kb each. until the site is moved to a new ISP.

Long Term:

I plan on moving the site in the near future to a different ISP that provides almost 10x the space for the same rate, so if you have piles of pictures . . . try to hang onto them until the move is completed . . . . probably the week after new years, but maybe sooner.

Gee!! Just after I just now finished my gallewry!! I just redid it so to try to show how I did the conversion.

Thanks MJ - It's only temporary until the site is moved. *I am glad you read this . . . we only have 5mb's of space *left now. *If you want help . . . *I'll resize the pics for you. *You should be able to get a decent quality shot at under 100kb per pic. It's a pain to resize them, but it make the site faster and keeps the total size of the site small.

Monday . . . . I call Omnis and get a larger plan for the time being. *

well it is real easy to resize the pic's!! All you have to do is go to admin options and choose resize all and it works great!! but I found it after I delted the 1st 4 pic :o Now how can i get them back to the first 4 spots??? I made them in order and now they are not??

Yeah . . . about that resize feature . . . .

It resizes the pics, but the original ones stay on the server. So you just essentially just doubled the amount of space you were using up with one click of the mouse. Hang tight until tomorrow and we'll clean up the album.

Log in just like you log in here. Then in the right hand corner hit "new album"

Then a window will come up and say : HEY! Add some Photo's * and again you go to the top right corner and hit "admin optins"

Then look for "add photos"

Hit "browse" and choose a pic from your computer and double click it and hit "upload"

And that is it!! you are finished! Easy try it, you will like it!!

I tried to login with my v20 password and also reentering my user name as password - no go. :'(

I tried again with every combo of upper and lower case letters - no go. :'(

I tried send me my password and was told I am not a valid username. ouch... that hurt >:(

Maybe for the best. I wouldn't want to screw up the site.

That was my first digital photo, and I am really proud of it.

I borrowed Jaysea's digital camera. I took 25 pics. Lots of variety. Transom shots. Anchor platform/roller shots. Interiors. Exteriors. Topless. Topup. Full enclosure. Trailer shots. Been wanting to do this from the getgo.
Can't wait to put it all together.

A lot of gratitude and credit goes out to Jaysea's son, Dan, who tirelessly loaded the pics from his camera to his computer and then e-mailed them to me. It was a struggle, but he stuck with it until the job was done. 8)

Next step, getting them out of my puter and into my new gallery.

First question. Is the login case sensitive?

You no all my pics are now all less the 60 kb's and look great!!
200 kbs is a pretty big pic! I would say you should make the gallery limt 100 kb's. Does this board have a auto resize feature?? Maybe you can set it for what ever size you think is good and then that will be it??
Just a thought.

I have two different paswords. He probley has made your password eaither your name or your password here. Once you have loged in you can change it to what you want

The usernames and passwords for the gallery are case sensitive. I just created your login. Your username for the gallery is "seakindly" and the password is the same as the username "seakindly" (all lowercase)

Try to keep the pictures under 100k each in size. Some of the newer digital cameras (2+ megapixels) will take HUGE digital pics that need to be resized using a photo editing program . . .

Resize the pics with your photo editor to:

8" x 11" (or smaller) @ 72dpi. This is the best size.

(mj or I can help if this doesn't make sense).

MJ - I am looking into gallery features that will automatically resize pics over 100k and junk the originals. Right now the resize feature keeps the originals after resizing them. I am sure that this feature exists, but I haven't been able to find it yet.

Is the site moved yet??

I just tried to log into my gallery with seakindly/seakindly and was denied. ???

My pics are stored in 2 places.

1) on my computer hard drive as .jpg files. These are the original 25 pics at full resolution. Each pic is about 250 - 400 kb in size.

2) I also uploaded my pics to Yahoo Photos. They are stored at full resolution and (printable for a price) thru Yahoo at full resolution. They are also viewable online at "screen size" which is a reduced resolution of unknown (at this time) file sizes. Although the resolution is somewhat reduced they look fine on my moniter. One of the nice things about this free service is that it allows you to correct/enhance the photos. I can probably save these improved pics to my computer and then load them into my gallery. Hopefully they will not need further resizing.

Macojoe, thank you for your kind offer. I would much rather do this (with your help and bigshrimpins help) myself, than dump this project onto your computer. I really would like to learn how to do this kind of stuff, and move into the 21st century.

My V21 AND I are being buried in snow as I type. :'( This would be a good weekend for me to do this.

I was in taunto till 8pm and i headed home. Well we went 35 mph in 4 wheel drive all the way home!!

At times it was a total white out could not see a thing!!

Took us 2 houirs 10 min to get home which is a 1 hour ride at best normally!!! I am glad to be home.

Macojoe, I tried to save my improved photos from Yahoo Photos to my computer last night, but I couldn't do it. It seems like Yahoo changed something since last week when I captured the modified photo that I have in my gallery now. I am going to e-mail one of the improved photos from Yahoo to you. Maybe you can figure out how to get them back out of Yahoo??? I still have the originals on my hard drive, but I would rather post the improved photos to my gallery.

I just uploaded a pic there and enhanced it and saved it. That was easy!! then all i did was right click on the pic and saved to my documents and it came back to me, Easy!!

This was only the 2nd time my Daughter used my puer!! I was defraging hers.
We all have are own puters here. all hooked up to Comcast High speed. So we are all on at the same time doing what ever we want. Son. Daughter, and me!! I might have to put a 4th soon as my wife is going to go to school to learn how to use them. She is leagle blind and will need some special stuff in stalled on hers.

I took your email and downloaded it to my puter.
Then I uploaded it to yahoo photo
Then i rotated the pic and saved it that way
Then I opened it and right clicked it and hit save to
and saved it back to the piter.

I then loaded it to my comcast account cause they allow linking. So I linked them here.
Linking is great as it does not use memory from the site !! so you can show all the pic without using up ther sites resource.

The pic size was fine! about 24 KB 400 X 300 pixels If you resize to about 800 X800 pixels you will be at or around 60 kb's which is a nice size to post with. All the pic in my gallery are about that size.

Thanks Macojoe! That pic was originally 300 kb, before it was yahooed. It looks ok to me in the gallery. (Yes, I ACTUALLY PUT IT THERE!) I GUESS IF SOMEONE WAS TO SAVE IT FROM THE GALLERY TO HIS PUTER, AND THEN ZOOM IN ON IT (CAPS LOCK IS A *****) - it wouldn't look so hot.

I tried to put that pic as my atavar, but it didn't take. Big, do you have that turmed off?
