Hello,

My name is Chris. I live in Savannah GA. My first boat was a 1988 v-20 fisherman/cc. It had a 200 Yamaha. I realized after the first day of riding that this was the perfect hull. I kept that boat for 5 years. Then I bought a 1991 fisherman/cc with a closed transom and an armstrong full flotation bracket holding a merc 225. I know, some would say that is too much motor, believe me it wasn't. I wouldn't put a 225 on a v-20 with a cutaway transom. The full flotation bracket was key. The '91 would do a solid 60knts(safely, I might add). After fishing that boat for 3 years, I thought I would move up to a 1989 23 fisherman/cc. Wow! What a mistake that was. You can really tell the difference in hull design. The v-20 was drier and softer than that big ole heavy 23. After finally getting rid of the 23 I am in the market for another v-20 fisherman/cc with a closed transom.
Anyway, thats my v-20 story hope to chat with you all soon.

Chris

P.S. I have heard that Ray hunt also designed the 21 seahawk/scorpion hull for chris-craft. Supposedly he scaled up the v-20 hull to make it a foot longer. when he did that something happened to lift/drag ratio and I know those boats don't ride anything like the v-20(very sluggish). Anybody else heard this?

Chris, welcome to the site. Hope to have you back in the V20 'fold" soon. Sounds like you already know the virtues of the V20. Yeah, I've heard that about the Seahawk as well. 8)
BTW, macojoe will be on the board soon enough and he'll tell you to watch out for me. Pay no attention to him. He's not quite right in the head if you know what I mean. We keep hoping that if we ignore him, he'll just go away. ;D He's kinda like that piece of toilet paper that gets stuck to the bottom of your shoe when you walk out of the crapper. Pretty embarassing ya know. ::)
j/k me and MJ like to throw digs at each other whenever the opportunity arises. It's all good. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

MJ, Chris and many others not from New England may not understand your reference to "P-Town".
In case you're all wondering, MJ is referring to Provincetown, MA. where many couples of the same gender seem to congregate to enjoy their alternative lifestyle openly in public ::) :P
Another tidbit of information: MJ lives just down the road a bit from this place. The family has been wondering where he goes when he slips out of the house late at night. ;D

Thanks guys,
To answer your question rico about fuel consumption, I can just tell you that when any outboard is turning 5500-5800 rpms its burning too much fuel. I dont have an exact figure on the full throttle consumption but i bet is probably around 25-30+ gallons/hr. I rarely would ever keep it at full throttle for more than a minute or two. Just long enough to blow by those contenders and regulators with twins burning 50 gallons an hour. I know that my second v-20 would do a solid 40 knots in 2-3 foot chop and burn about 15-18 gallons an hour. It really depended on what prop i had on there. with a 17 on it i could easily do 35 knots in the ocean and burn about 14 avg. But with a michigan prop 23 pitch chopper i could get it to push 60 knots in the rivers on a good day, lets just say then i could see the fuel gauge slowly moving towards empty. By the way I removed the stock 60 gallon tank and replaced it with a 100 gallon tank. Pretty tough swap out but it was well worth it. I think that wellcraft should seriously consider bringing the v-20 back. To this day I have not found a 20 foot hull that is drier, smoother, and tougher than a v-20.
Cheers,
Chris

Also rico,
if you find one you like in my area, let me know i know the guy who has one on the boattrader now its a cuddy with a 200 on a bracket. nice boat. not sure about the hull though. I have seen him out at one of the reefs around here. So that means it floats, and it can make a 50 mile round trip. other than that i cant tell you anything else.

More about the power of SEARCH ;D
Rico, if you search this site (use keyword "navman") - you will bring up a post by a cool californian named cbuzz. Cbuzz (who unfortunately has not been around lately) posted a chart he compiled with the performance specs mpg, gph at the full range of rpm for his v20 cc with a 175? yamaha outboard.
I bought a navman unit this winter and I hope to compile such a chart for my rig (with and without the hydrofoil) later this season. It would be great if we could get this done for some of the various v20 power configurations. 8)

seakindly,
my gph measurements were by no means dead on accurate. I was going by how much fuel i put in vs. how far I went on the Loran and my avg. speed and time it took. I didnt have a navman or a floscan to really get the consumption.

CBE, I knew that. :D
RICO - did you see CBUZZ'S performance chart?? 8)
