I just found this page. I have an 86 V-20. It still has the original 1.6L OMC Sea Drive! The 1.6L provides a very "relaxed" pace and gets a lot of looks. We love our Steplift and spend a lot of time on her in Long Island Sound. I look forward to repowering the boat once the Sea Drive finally decides to move on to a better place where it is more appreciated.

Welcome, how long have you owned your v20? This is a very informative site. *It also provides some good laughs. *Bill Mc

Welcome CT :)

I looked into buying one of them last summer. Full transom is the way to go. 8)

How many horsepower is the 1.6, and what is your top speed?

Thanks for all the responses. The 1.6L is about 115 hp, so she is a bit pokey. The full transom is great. We have a "lounge" that goes across the transom in the cockpit, which makes for lots of capacity, but that poor 1.6L can't handle too many passengers. Without the aft bench, the cockpit is huge. I've had the boat for two seasons and she's a keeper. It's amazing to me that you can get a Ray Hunt designed hull for such a reasonable price (I only paid $2,900 for boat and motor) when other Hunt designs like Bertrams, Gradys and Whalers are so much more expensive. I know she can hold up to a 225, so when the time comes I think I'll do a 200 or 175 with an Armstrong bracket. Once I figure out how to post pics, I'll put some up. She's in great shape.

I have a 75 V20 that was a I/O and I converted it with a stainless marine bracket. I have a 175 Yamaha on it, and love it!!
I get a top speed of 40 mph and i cruz nice in the low to mid 30's
My next inprovment is going to be Trim Tabs, after setting the engin on a 28" set back bracket you change the center of gravaty and it ride a bit hi in the bow. Not to much but just anough so that when you are in a chop it hits the mid section rather then let the bow cut the water. making for some banging.
But I would not change a thing!

Good Luck

My bow rides high too, but I think it's just due to the lack of power. No need for speed since I typically am on the water with my 4-yr old son and 1-1/2 year old daughter.
