Well guys, I went fishing on that Grady, overall its damn nice boat, abit cramped at the helm though. I notice that the bracket had some play, meaning that it moved and flexed when we were under power. The silicon around the edge was also seperated from the transom. I feel water may be getting were I don't want any water. Bildge came on each time we moved for a new drift .
I'm not so sure I still want to sell my v20. I don't think that Grady handled the sea much better than the 20.
Is this movement of the bracket a big deal???
By the way, fishing was pretty good. We kept 8 flounder with 3 being right at 24 inches. I love the Chesapeake!!!

Bracket moving would be a big deal to me. Why did it move? Thats what I would have to know.

-This is simple
-If bracket moves, structual integrity is violiated.
-Water has invaded the transom (plywood core)
-Don't buy without surveyor who knows how to use a moisure meter.

Agreed.
If it's flexing then more than likely its saturated. Like sailboat said a surveyor can check saturation.
I'd steer clear unless its a really good deal. If it requires a rebuilt transom, the amount of work involved is extensive$$$$.

What year is the grady?
When was the bracket installed?
Wood is wet- saturated, but is it rotted?
Keith, I am still trying to figure out why you're lookin at buyin a 24 grady, when you're sellin your v20 cause you moved away from the shore and don't get to fish much anymore??

I'vepretty much decided against the Grady. It was a friend that owns it. He has only had it less then a year and I'm sure he has no clue about wet wood in the transom. I feel that I need more boat with my growing family.
I'm leaving for an extended vacation on the bay and I'll be fishing on the FREESPIRIT v20 everyday. I have a gentleman that says he is going to buy it when I return.
If I don't fall in love with the boat all over again and change my mind.
