OK, this is just a discussion, I am NOT knocking what you East coasters have or dont have. 8)

I have noticed IMHO on various sites and stuff that most east coasters are jelous of the fishery we have in the Gulf. Is this true? Do yall think that we have more qaulity fishing? I noticed what alot of guys think of as a great day on the East coast would be marginal at best for me down here. Yeah the species are different, EX. (we think bluefish are trash and catch very few stripers)but in terms of what is a good day there versus a good day here.

Gimme some opinions!

PS, I wish we did have weakfish here!!!

Well I am happy with what I have!!

Stripers, Fluke, Black Sea Bass, Scup, Blue Fish, Black Fish, Cod

I carry a comercial permit also, not so much to make money, but to get around the 6 fluke, 2 stripers, 10 Scup and 10 Cod, ect ect...

The only real complaint I have, and its the same thing I am jelious of you souther guys, Is how short are season is and how long yours is!!

I wasnt really talking about you Franco, what you catch is very similiar to what I do...You may even have a few more species.

I guess the main thing is the weather, fishing all year is certainly easier here. ;D

The thong is pure pleasure! You should try it sometime. ::)

aside from all the inshore species that maco mentioned we also have a pretty good offshore fishery. of course its not quite what you guys have down south and we do have to run a bit farther out but we get mako, tuna,(both bluefin and yellowfin) dolphin, marlin, wahoo, DELICIOUS GOLDEN TILEFISH, and there aint nothin like havin a 16 foot top of the food chain enter your slick and chew on your chumpot for an hour or two!!! WOW!!! we also consider blues trash unless you catch em the way i do... four pound spinning gear. aint a fiestier sonofa***** on light *** tackle. twenty minutes of the baddest *** light tackle fishin you can find anywhere!

i cant really vouch for the taste of bluefish not being much of a fish eater to begin with. 99 percent of my catch gets to go home after a hard fought battle.
niether one of my boys have ever seen a fish die... gonna be a hell of a time explaining that one off next time i take one or two for the table.

I have eatin bluefish as well and as yall said it CAN be good if prepped and cooked right. I would just rather eat something that tastes better without working so hard for it. ;D
