I had a teacher once who said " there are no stupid questions, just stupid students" Well here goes, are all V-20s Steplifts or is that a designation that came in the later years?

This isn't a stupid question.

All wellcraft v20's share the same steplift hull design.

The longitudinal strakes/steps patented by Harry Schoell give the hull extra lift . . . allowing it to ride higher in the water at speeds. Ray Hunt encorporated these strakes into the design of this boat which was original built by Alim in 1960.

In the article listed above . . . Harry is given credit for designing the v20 with his dad (which is not correct).

What BigShrimpin said.

When you're talking about a V-20 that's the Steplift "model", usually you mean the cuddy. I think most center console drivers will say they have a "V-20 CC" or "V-20 Fisherman".

Not a stupid question....

The Alims and the Bertram 20's (also a Step-Lift design I think) caused a stir in the early 1960's when they each won the Miami-Bimini boat race. I'd love to find out more about the Alims, but I can't even seem to find that old Miami Hearld newpaper clipping that I thought I saw on here about the boatrace. Can anyone rembmer where that's at? Or am I getting this site confused with Ray Hunt Associates?

Is this it ? http://www.wellcraftv20.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=General;action=display;num=11099116 33;start=0#0

I thought this was under history at one time.

I thought the Alim ad was under the History section too, but I can't find it. Thanks for the link to the Miami-Bimini race.
