Are you saying that the e-tec 200 is lighter than a standard 150 ??

Is this the same motor your talking about?

http://www.evinrude.com/en-CA/Engines/2005/E-Tec/Saltwater.250.225.200/Specifications/200.V6/

This spec says the 200hp is 516 lbs.

THT had a thread saying that Bombardier would offer an E-Tec 200 based on the 150/175 block that it would weigh 423lbs...the motor in Jeff's post above is the 200HO(I assume High Output) and is based on the larger displacement block of the 225/250 models...

Can't help but think about it... ::)... ;D

Stripminer...it's less than my 4-Stroke 150...

I am buying a new engine by the end of the week. I really like the buzz about the e-tecs but I am always leary of being a guinea pig. Do you have any concerns over the new technology needing a good de-bugging ??

I found the spec sheet on the 200 for you,, enjoy

I have heard nothing but good about the E-tec . They soon bringing out the "small block" 150/175/200 in the e-tec . When I repower/have the $ I most likely will go with a 175or 200 E-tec . I like my current yamaha fine but when it goes , I kike the idea of a light , quiet , fuel sipping 2 stroke . Not to mention being able to get 7 years of coverage .

I have talked to installers, and repair techs, and retail guys, all I have ever heard is that the E-Tec is the best motor that has been made in 20 yrs, I guess by default that kinda means the best motor ever

Have you guys seen that new Mercury Verado?

That's the BIGGEST motor built in the last 20 years! Looks like the 225hp weighs somewhere around 700lbs to me. Surely not, but if I had to guess...

I'm not a Mercury fan anyway - sorry Mercury V20 owners!

Hey guys I will tell you what I know to be true. My buddy who works for a local sporting goods store here in Mobile deals Mercury. He went to a seminar and they had a demo video on the E-Tec. All three boats were equal...except the motors. The engines were all 200hp and they were the E-Tec, Vmax, and the Optimax. Anyway he said they all started at the same place and at first throttle the E-Tec immediately jumped ahead by about 4 boat lengths. They continued acceleration for about a quarter mile and it continued to walk off and leave the rest. By the end of the "race" the E-Tec was at least a couple hundred yards ahead of all the rest. :o

He said is was an unbiased and unendorsed test and I would imagine so since his company deals Mercs ;D

Stinky, somebody's going to ask, so it might as well be me - who came in 2nd? 8)

From everything I've heard/ read, E-Tec would be my choice if buying a new OB...my Honda is GREAT...don't get me wrong...a REAL fuel sipper if ever there was one...but if the E-Tec 175 had been immediately available and CERTAINLY had the 200 small block been available, then THAT'S what would be hangin' on my transom today!!...

As far as "new technology"...really there's nothing "new" about them, except Bombardier engineered all the traditional 2-stroke problems OUT of 'em...plus the E-Tec configuration has been in testing by the military for a lot longer than the general public has been aware of it...

I got a lot of faith in Bombardier...they'll spend the money and time to get it RIGHT...do I believe EVERY SINGLE E-Tec will be perfect...NO...but it'll be as good and in most cases better than anything else currently on the market...

Won't be too soon, but I'm pretty sure there's an E-Tec in Reelapeelin's future... ;D...

Hang on Im callin him...ok I was off a little it wasnt the Optimax ,it was the Verado!! :o

and the yammi came in second.....so feel good about yourself MJ. ::)

Now I'm REALLY confused...BR asked who came in second...Stinky comes back and says IT was the Verado...and the Yammie came in second... ::)...

Who's on FIRST?... ;D...

Oh no!!!! Im sorry LMAO

In the race it was a Verado instead of an optimax representing Mercury.

The winner is STILL the E-Tec. I was just wrong on which Merc is was.

sorry ;D

RAP, So the four stroke sips fuel? These Honda guys here are telling me that the four stroke will use half the gas as my two stroke. I figured when time came I had four stroke in the future. But this E Tec sounds really good.

If anyone really has an interest, you can go to thehulltruth and view EXHAUSTIVE debate on the E-tec vs. 4-stroke drama. The consensus seems to be that the e-tec out paces the 4 strokes and gets better fuel economy and emits less pollutants... unless you happen to own a 4-stroke in which case substitute "4 strokes" for "etec" in the above statement and vice versa.

Yeah, CT, you got that right...THT could be called "The Hull OPINION"...there's your side, his side, then there's the TRUTH...there's some good stuff on that board, but you gotta pick and choose... ;) ::)...

I top my tanks up each time I finish for the day...difference between old carbed Rude and Honda is pretty dramatic...wish I had fuel-flow meter so I could give some hard numbers, but reduction in fuel consumption seems to be around 40% or so...

I think thats good info even if its only 30% as long as you can match HP to HP. They sure seem to be dependable. I speaking of the Honda's.

you guys get your etec or anything else you want but to me the only motor that i will hang on my transom is a mercury. so the etec is faster big deal the mercury will get me home and thats the reel deal.

reelapeelin
05-22-2005, 02:32 PM
Yeah, Vic...dependability a major factor on gettin' the Honda...pretty happy w/ it, but got a boner for more HP...that small-block E-Tec 200 got me goin'!!... 8) ;D...

step...no doubt Merc's puttin' out great motors...owners on THT are REAL HAPPY w/ their's...specially the Verados...SWEET...but my 30+ yr old 20" transom just won't handle the weight of a 200 hp Verado...if I had a full transom w/ bracket, it would be in the running...truth is most OB mfgrs turnin' out good stuff these days...they gotta...look what happened to OMC over the early model FICTs...50 yr old company tits-up in short order... :o ::)...

Just to add an aside to this discussion and make every one feel better. I captain a 330 Express Grady White with twin 300 Yammys and the digital fuel flow meters tell me that at WOT I am using 53 GPH * :o *Glad I don't have to fill the tanks up out of my checking account
