anyone know about the evinrude 1996 175 hp ocean pro, whether this is one of the FICHT motors or not. how they held up etc ?

willy, not sure of dates, but if you find out it's a FICHT manufactured by OMC prior to Bombardier taking over ...RUN!!!...that's basicly the motor that lead to OMC's demise... ;) :P...

according to what i found in my OMC books they didn't make the FICHT until late 1999 and all of 2000. That's for the 150's and 175's.

I'm pretty sure you're looking at a regular carbed model. That said, that block has stood the test of time. It's been around since the later 80's and is probably still in production, plus some modernizations of course. There are some very knowlegeable guys (including OMC mechanics) on iboats.com's forums and it's a good source of info.

Ocean Pros are the Carb engines.
Ficht weren't around until 1997. Some may have a manufacuter date of 1996.
FIcht are direct injection engines. ( injectors are on the heads)

Sounds like it could be a good motor...if compression checks out and all else is good, GO FOR IT!!... ;)...
