Hello,

I'm new to the forum, just bought a 20' welcraft, I'm not sure of the year.

I wanted to know what's the average size of the gas tank for these boats?

And how fast (mph) should a 200hp mercury (older) engine go on a calm day?

I hope these questoins aren't too vague..

Thanks

depending on the year, if it has a fuel tank in the deck it usually holds about 60 gallon

Thanks, what about the speed of a 200hp engine?

Mine tops out at 42 mph w/a 150...your 200 should do well over that...I'm thinkin' you're gonna cruise around 35-40 mph and WOT should get you close to 50 mph...some of the guys w/200s will tell you for sure...of course your speed is also going to be determined by size/pitch of the prop those 200 horses are turning...

Year model of your hull will be last two numbers of hull ID number located on top right of transom...'80 and up should hold 60 gals fuel...post some pics of your new boat...we'd like to seeum!!... ;D...

Mud - If you're only hitting 34 mph Top Speed . . . then there is something very wrong with the motor (or the hull is full of water). Make sure you take care of the problem ASAP, before you use the boat anymore. Those Blackmax motors are awesome engines. They are very light (380lbs) and they'll last forever if you take care of them. If the oil injection is still installed - have it removed and premix.

Mudda on your other post about overheating...IF it's not a cooling problem and IF your automatic-oiler is still in place, maybe your beeper is due to an oiling problem...Big is RIGHT...IF your auto-oiler is still there, DISCONNECT IT and start mixing your oil/gas...SAVE BIG $$$ DOWN THE ROAD...TRY TO FIND AN aCCU-MIX or other brand name mixing bottle...indicates exactly amount of oil to put in according to amount of gas you've put in...EASY and I like EASY... 8)...

What did you find out about your BEEPER??... :)...

Yor boat oughtta FLY (almost) w/that 200...if all else checks out, you may need to change propellers...look closely for numbers on prop...let us know what you find... ;)...does your boat have a working tachometer?... :)...

I do have a working Tach. and I also premix my oil/gas.

I think the prop may have something to do with it.

Mud - what are your RPM's at full throttle? Also what size and pitch prop are you running?

The most likely scenerario . . . is that your engine is only firing on 5 of the 6 cylinders.

Also it's a good idea to test the compression. Do you have a compression tester? If not you can find one at any auto parts store.
