My project V20 came with a long output Merc (blown powerhead) and I'm shopping for a whole new outboard. what output length should I go with- 25 or 30? This is a 1977 V20 hull.

I thought the '77 required a 20" shaft length. ???

Yeah, I'm pretty sure, unless it's been altered, the '77 is same as my '74 and require's a short-shaft or 20" shaft... ;) :)..

Wow- ok, that's weird. The motor it came with decoded as a long output (LO), so I'm guessing that's a 30".
Thanks for the info!

Actually, a "long-shaft" is 20" and 25" is extra-long, with 30" being xx-long. Below the 20" is a 15" (I think) that is considered the "short" shaft.
I'm about 80 % sure that's right :-/

NOTHING WORSE THAN A SHORT SHAFT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE EXTRA LONG NORTONS !!!!!
