I just ordered the last brand new in the box 2004 ,150hp Yamaha from Ed's marine . $6999+ freight . As much as I would have liked an E-TEC it was the cost in the end that made the call . I can use all of the controls , oil tank, guages ,prop, ect . from my 1994 . I think I have my old motor sold for $2100 . The guy is to bring a check on Sat and after a test run on my boat we are going to pull the engine . I should have the new one in about two weeks . While the motor is off I'm going to have some minor glass and gelcoat work done .

Minor . . . yeah, that's what I said. ;D
just kidding
Congrats, labii! Did you go with a 2-stroke or 4?
labii

I went with the two stroke . At the price that I paid , I don't think that I would make up the savings in fuel cost for years . I know the 4 strokes are very good , but the 2 stroke has been good to me. I don't have to do anything but bolt the new on .

Hey, with the advances they have made in 2-strokes, my 200 burns less than my old 150 'Rude did. And hauls a___, too! 8) Sounds like you did well. Keep us posted!

That's the same motor I bought new in July. Haven't had a second worth of trouble. 42mph top end on the V-21. Surprisingly quiet IMO. Sounds like a good deal. I paid close to $500 more than that.
Are they charging you for the install? The dealer charged me $150. The first dealer I asked said around $400, so I though $150 sounded pretty good.

Good move labii. I would have made the same decision. ;)

The dealer here said that he would hang it and sign off on it for $200 . I could have bought an 05 for $500 more . Ed's says it is the same motor and I figure that I can use that to cover the cost of mounting it .

Thanks Willy , I thought about buying the 200 hp but it was about $2k more . If it had been 5 years ago when I was a single man it would have been a different story .

I think 200 would have been overkill, little gain in performance, loss of some fuel economy and more money to boot ;)

I was able to get out and put a little time on the new motor this weekend . It is sweet ! It is much more quite than my 1994 , Yamaha 150 . I'm also turning up an easy 5500 RPM's with the old prop . Before all I could get with a full trim was 5200-5300 . The speedo reads 46 mph and before all I could get was 42-43 . I have not been able to check it with a GPS yet . That is on my list for spring as I am going to replace my loran .

15 1/4 x 17 . I kept the one that was on my old motor . Yamaha says 4500-5500 rpm range . I only had it W.O.T for a few seconds . I have less that two hours on it .
