Got tried of waitng for the Connecticut River to go down so I can get the boat in the river for stripers so today I took it to Crystal Lake in Ellington Ct it's a small but excellent trout lake it's one 1 of 5 that is a trophy trout lakes in the state and it's less than 15 minutes from here I used to troll there a lot but I have no kicker so we drifted with shiners in 3 hours we caught 11 trout the largest was 3 1/2 lbs and 22 1/2 inches long that my son caught. Next week Blackfish opens so....Down to the shore...Ted *http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/newhavenrr/22inchtrout.jpg *http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/newhavenrr/PDR_0004_1.jpg * http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/newhavenrr/PDR_0003_1.jpg

I wish some of the trout holes were closer to my hometown. About 2 hours drive minimum. Hard to beat on the table! What's the size limit requirements there?

I'll anwser the first question It's a male rainbow trout and the smaller one is female brown trout the males as they mature the jaws get long and curl simular to a salmon. Here in Ct there 5 trophy trout lakes all have a 2 trout limit that has a 16" min size all other must be released. This place is only 200 acres but around 1900 this was a stone quarry that they struck so much water that the place filled up to a depth of 55 feet and along the south side with a depthfinder there is the last place that was worked there is a vertical wall that goes from 53' to 13' in less than 10 '. When I had a 17' foot Starcraft Tri-hull we trolled there everyweek at least 3 times a week and pulled up some real nice trout up to 7 pounds... july 2003 trolling 25' down with a silver spoon I caught a 6.1 lbs largemouth bass....It's a nice plce to fish and swim... I found a few pictures fishing from the old Tri-hull 1976 Starcraft Capri with a 1974 Johnson 85hp we fished everywhere with it .... http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/newhavenrr/PDR_0093_1.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/newhavenrr/PDR_0078_1.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/newhavenrr/PDR_0077_1.jpg

HA!!! I had an old starcraft like that that I cut the bow rider out and made it into a center console. It was a fun little boat and rode extremly dry because of those bow "shelves".
Ill see if I can dig up a pic!
Here it is. You can see where I was cutting the front apart on the bottom. I dont have any after pics. It was alot nicer as a CC. ;)
