well just picked up the boat yesterday evening, and started cleaning it up--everything electrically works, even the cigarette lighter---it gonna need some cleaning, and a little attention here and there, but am very pleased with the purchase--

89 v-20 dual console(20 Sportfish), 88 175 merc black max(rebuilt w/apprx 100 hours), tandem axle galv trailer

...picked it up for 1200 clams!! ;D

BUT....this is what i need some help with...

Anybody got a line on some replacement stickers(blue), or is the best bet just to catch up with a local sign shop and them made?

Also after cleaning out the years worth of leaves, i have some stains in the bottom of the non-skid and in the corners where the damp leaves sat...anybody have any suggestions?

and lastly, the main reason he sold the boat was he needed money..badly, and the trim motor went out
and at almost a grand, he didnot want to fool with it.

So i need some info on these trim motors for mercury OB's and was wondering if there were any mercury gurus floating around!

I will post pics shortly as time permits!

Congrats, sounds like a steal. ;D ;D

I wouldn't hesitate to mix up a little simple green and bleach mixture, spray it on with a bug sprayer, let it sit for a few. Come back on my hands and knees with a scrub brush and see what happens.

On the trim motor. A buddy of mine removed one from an old force, disassembled, cleaned and reassembled, works great, you won't be out anything if it doesn't work.

Just my .02 cents.

BTW we would love to see some pics of your new ride.

My '89 cuddy needs new stickers also. I think the only thing you're going to be able to do is have them made. Apparently '89 was the 20th anniversary for the V20 and I think the sticker is unique to this year. Check on page 4 in my gallery and you will find the 20th aniversary logo I edited from a picture of whats left of the stickers on my boat. If this is what you're looking for and you find any let me know. If you get any made and there's any quantity discount let me know and maybe we can work a deal.

If you have any well established Merc places in your area, they probably have a few old midsections out back. Might be able to pick up the entire trim assembly, pump, motor, and all for about $200. Thats what I did. You unbolt the starboard motor bracket to get the assembly out.

There's part's places that list brand new trim motors on ebay for about $130. Is your motor a two or three wire unit?

Good Deal . . . You can use softscrub w/bleach to remove leaf stains . . . also try Y-10 (available at west marine) for any rust stains.

I saw one of those boats just outside Calabash, NC recently...is that the one you got?...

Either way, you sure gotta GREAT deal on a good boat... ;)...

Clorox Cleanup will take care of those stains...scrub it around w/a long-handled brush and let it work for about 15 min. or so ...scrub it again w/a wet brush, then rinse GOOD...

Remove old stripes w/a hair-dryer, then buff w/an oxidation removing wax...you might like it solid white w/no stripes... 8)...

Southern...

Great deal! WOW. - will you find (steal) boats for me please! - what line did you use on the seller?

Like Reel says use a hair dryer, or heat gun to remove stripes.

DO NOT USE A SCRAPER OR RAZORE BLADE - IT IWILL GOUGE THE FIREGLASS !!!

Heat the stripe - use your fingernail to get it started, and then heat it a little - and pull. If the stripe breaks don't worry - start again.
Once you get the stripe off (or most of it) get a clean rag, and acetone - rub off any risidual glue left on the fiberglass. - Turn the rag frequently, and keep it moist - but not real wet with acetone. You may have to rub hard, but the acetone will remove the glue. THEN WASH THE AREA WITH SOAP AND WATER. After that (you may want to ) compound the area were the sripe was...

It really isn't a lot of work - and the result is that you'll never know were the stripe was!

I have been told more than once that oven cleaner works great and it will not harm the gel coat...if you try it do it carefully.....I have no idea how it will work

Good catch Southern , good luck with the V your gonna love it. Ditto what all said on clean up, I used simple green and let it sit for awhile two or three times, any faint residual thats in the gel coat your going to need bleach or something similar.

I have used house vinyl siding wash many times on fiberglass, just spray it on and after 15 min wash it off. Works great for the green leaf stains!

Ok I guess once your living in sunnyland your funny man gene develops, you start wearing pink panties, mounting triple engines on 20 foot boats and calling hurricanes weather events. And a poor northern boy shoveling two feet of snow drives you into hysterics ::)

Franco

Well we get busted every time we have a Hurricane you guys give us hell about the perils of living in Sunnyland. But as all my northern brothers know, you can come on down and warm up at my house anytime!
