Need some ideas on this, spent some time with the Gran Puhbah in Fla. discussing it and I think it would be a great thing to pull off. I'm willing to help organize and make it happen. Biggest question in my mind is where.
I have some general thoughts for discussion and would like your inputs.
1. If we do it in VA. or NC. would be better for GA. Fla. boys
2. If we do it in NJ. it would be better for NY.NJ. PA.LI. MA.ME.CN. etc.
So if we do it and more guys from way north are coming then I think the fine fishing in Raritan Bay to Cape May would be a good option.
3. Not everyone should have to tow a boat. We could hook up guys either on their own or with other members and fish at least three guys to a boat and it would be more fun that way.
4. The other option is to have two of them, one more north and one more south. I personally would try to make both if that was the case and I could get off work.
5. We should pursue sponsors especially WellCraft and put it out as a fishing tournament and post it in other sites besides ours because I know a lot of V20 boys know nothing about this site.
6. Super Models would be nice ;)

And if he hasn't got his V up and running I'm calling Stinky as co-pilot. ;D

Why? Do you have a penchant for men that fish in pink thong undergarments, attach probes to their nipples and pee in their in-laws sinks? ;D ;D ;D

Anyways, I like the sounds of it and would most likely be up for that road trip. I think somewhere in the MD to VA area would be centrally located for most of us east coast members and not too far for some of our distinguished mid-west folks. This is not in any way to exclude anyone from the left side of the country, just seems to be a majority here on the eastern half. It would definately be nice to get as many members together. Need to find a spot to be able to fire up a grill (Stinky, you think you can drag that dayum fine stainless rig on up?), strap the feedbag on. Throw down some cold ones and swap the BS stories. ;) ;D
I like the sounds of this. Fish, grill the catch of the day, cold beer, BS, oh and don't forget the supermodels, creamcheese and handcuffs! :o ;D ;D ;D

I was thinking the same area CB, I don't know it for fishing or for facilties for so many distinguished gentleman but I always like an adventure, which is why I call Stinky as co-pilot. Pink panties aside ;)

Here's a good location just outside of Annapolis, MD. Room to launch 22 boats at a time and picnic shelters for the grilling on land or good places to raft up nearby if you want to keep the party on the water. Easy access for those trailering from the north or the south.

That looks like a fine spot, have you fished the area, I know a lotta guys like fishing that long bridge, I think Lord Franco used to haunt that area.
I'm wondering how many guys would want to camp down there, is there a camping area around it.
Or are we doing the no tell motel routine
Decisions decisions

Franco
01-08-2006, 01:23 AM
To cold to fish this weekend. I like the Idea, it will take some planing though. We may even have a couple of regional get togethers - although I could probably be convinced to show up in the Virginia area. Maybe look at Cherrystone campground on the Eastern Shore peninsula. Access to the bay and ocean, camping lots and cabins, plus I think they rent trailers on campsites. They have several events every year.

Hey Gods....

some comments on Sandy Point .... and Cherry stone ....

Sandy Point could be good spot BUT Rt 50 and Ches Bay Bridge can get VERY crowded in summer time.

Also Sandy Point in more of a Day use park - not sure of overnight facilities.

Sandy Point is:
10 miles by land to Annapolis, MD 5 mile by water
30 miles by land to Washington DC - good for side day trips.... (way too far by water)
30 miles by land to Baltimore ... 25 by water
Generally good to OK fishing ...
Bay is about 5 miles acroos at Sandy Point ....
Several protected rivers e.g Magothy, Severn, good for waterskiing, tubing etc. - but crowded on summer weekends.
Good access to Ocean City, MD (90 miles)
Good access to eastern shore - by land and water
- Not to many camping sights that I know of anymore - mostly taken over by suburbia ....
- Hotels available - closest around Annapolis ...8 - 10 miles

Looking at Cheerstone - looks good since it is at mouth of Bay on lower eastern shore - Got to be good fishing.
Getting there may by so-so siince only two ways there ....
down Rt 13 on eastern shore (100 miles south of OC, MD) or across Bay Bridge in No-furk oop (spelled Northfork, or just Navy town)
Traffic thru Norfolk can be sloooow ... but is is staight forward to access 64 from 95 to get to to Bridge.

Fishing in lower part of bay is far better than up here off
Sandy Point HOWEVER - there is a lot of open water in that part of th Bay - and with prevailing winds in summer out f SW you can be on alee shore.

Cape Charles area is pretty far away from most other things (except if you want to go back across the Bay Bridge to No-furk .... (opps again)

Just some thoughts ..

Also you may want consider Solomons Island, MD or Deltaville, VA both on the western shore.
Solomons is 50 miles south of Annapolis, and Deltaville is about halfway between Annapolis, MD and Norfolk, VA ...

- CBil

... been in Annapolis since '78, spent lots of time in and around sandy point park, on land, water, air .... even sent kids to day camp there!

CapnBill

Willy

Don't know much about the area fishing wise.

We need to make a call to the V-20 membership to find out if anyone knows what is running, or in the water around June.
From Cheriton - the lower Chesapeake bay is west - generally good fishing, and Atlantice Ocean is to the east - also good fishing. Wachapeague (20 miles north) is considered great flounder fishing, and that there are several great offshore spots (aka the parkng lot, and 21 mile hill) not far (20 miles or so) offshore.

Need to do a google search on fishing links for the area too..

But that is as far as my knowledge goes -

Darn I remeber seeing some on here from VA Beach, or Chesapeake or Norfolk...

Hey guys,

I'm kind of in the same boat as Stinky, pick a date and I'll see if I can make it when the time comes, sounds fun though.

With that said, I live in Yorktown, Va. and the fishing here in the lower bay is very good in the summer.

Flounder, Cobia, Croaker, Spot, Spades and more.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is a huge attraction for fishermen in this area.

I'll see if I can dig up some more fishing info to post. I can post some questions on Tidal fish.com and see if any of the locals know anything about the area, what do you think?

Scott

$heeet Shicks....

From Yorktown !!! ... all you have to do splash your V-20, point it 090 degrees, and push the throttle (forward) and in about a half an hour (or less) you'll be able to see us!

I knew there was somebody out there who knew that part of the Bay better than me! THANKS ...

CBill

PS What do you think of Deltaville area also?

more links later also...

More on Sandy Point:

There are no overnight facilities at Sandy Point. Nearest camping would be KOA in Millersville (about 25 minutes away) or Tuckahoe State Park (about 45 minutes away). There are 3 hotels along Rt 50 between the Bay Bridge and Annapolis and plenty more in Annapolis. Cherrystone is a nice campground right on the water but but CBill is right there's nothing else there. A couple of other possiblities that are similar to Cherrystone on the western shore of the bay and near Deltaville are Bethpage Campground in Urbanna, VA and Greys Point

http://www.bethpagecamp.com/

As for the fishing in Annapolis or any of these other places, I don't know. I'm not a fisherman. This could be the perfect opportunity to change that. If this all takes place in Annapolis me and my boat will be available for some of you out of towners if you can bring some fishing gear. If we go to Cherrystone I'll be looking to fish with someone else as my boat trailer is not up to a road trip. However my 19' travel trailer is roadworthy and I'd be glad to bring it and share with someone who needs a place to stay.

Hey guys, I have stayed at cherrystone, it was a few years ago. But as I see it, they have made the facility even better now. you got your choise of fishing though - there is some shallow water stuff - they even get a few tarpon over there every year, you got the whole CBBT - cobia, flounder, bluse, trout, black drum along the bridge and over the tunnels. Then you got Wachapreague for flounder, also if you want to make the run, go around Cape Charles to the ocean, head for the 21 mile hill for some tuna trolling - 21 miles offshore - an easy run for a V20. What kind of stuff are you guys wanting to go to??

CapnBill
01-08-2006, 09:02 PM
Rick

was that YOU waving from the Fleet?

... just joke, haven't been cruiseing down ega alley for two years ow...
But if know you're going be at the fleet I'll raft up and look at the bottom of a beer glass with ya!

PS I live in Crownsville ... seriously
... about 2 miles from the (ex)hospital though
.. but I still tell people I live in Crownsville !!!

CBill

CapnBill

Franco is Right !!!

Cherrystone is best of both worlds - Ocean on one side BAy obn the other....
But the western shore ofthe Bay is great also in that there are a whole lot of great places to go - and all close by.

Either place is OK by me - from Annapolis each are about 4 hours by land or 7 hours by water - and about the same in gas! (almost)

Is this something that would be a family event?

macojoe
01-08-2006, 11:35 PM
1. Who is willing and able??

2. We need to set a date,
what dates do people want to do this??

3. And we need to do this ASAP, so people can put in for time off in advance at work!!

4. Were are we going to do this??

Summer is a busy time on the roads!!

May be a spring trip will be better??

If we are going south the fishing will be in full swing long before let say the Cape which is well in to June when the big ones get here.

we need to get a list of people who are able to go given anough time to get it from work.
So lets start there!! I will start a thread for who can go and when.

Franco
01-08-2006, 11:48 PM
I have a few days vacation coming - Need to get back to Virginia for a few days anyway - spring would be okay with me - and it should be a family event.

CapnBill
01-09-2006, 02:28 AM
Mac - good list of thing to do - start assigning members to each take the lead on one or two actions to do ...
Franco - good thoughts

My guess is Mid May for Southern Ches Bay would be good
Try for one or two week-ends before memorial day - what ever those dates are - I don;thave a calendar in font of me. April can sometimes still be too cold and rotten. (remeber I drive a CC - so I like the sun!)
May for the most part is good weather - and not too hot yet. Need to ask Skick007 about fishing conditions in southern part of Bay.

If it is just going to be the "nortons" and no families then think Cherystone - BUT if you want to have families, then think western side of Bay so family members can go to Bush Gardens or Yorktown, or all the other tourist kinds of things while the norton fish team is fishing....

Talk Later

C-Bill,

You hit the nail on the head with the Busch Gardens thing, thats why I was wondering if it would be a family event.

Yorktown just opened up the new Riverwalk landing at Yorktown near the battlefeilds, they have some overnight slips right there if that sounds interesting to anyone, I could inquire.

Familys are fine for those that want to bring them,

I for one are going to make this a Man weekend!!

willy
01-09-2006, 02:15 PM
I'm leaning toward an early June end of May date. Would be warm enough to enjoy and less chances of spring rains. I would be going solo, I'm figuring a seven hr. tow so I'm looking to fish for at least two full days and if I can swing it three. Turning it into a fluke tournament would be good if they are running down there then.
In May the weekend of the 19th - 21st keeps us out of Mothers Day and Memorial Day weekends
In June the weekend of the 2nd - 4th & 9th - 11th
If there is a consensus on any of these dates amongst members we can home in on it and pick a spot based on what fishing inquiries reveal.

willy
01-09-2006, 02:19 PM
Lets keep a running numbers tally on MJ's thread and keep the discussion stuff here to keep it simple, we'll pick a date based on the numbers

Nah Shicks we should be doing that, put it out to any V20-21 boys and let them know, might get a bunch of new members doing that and get ideas on where to fish and where to camp and or stay in hotels

Hey guys,

I need some help here. The guys over at wellcraftv20.com are talking about trying to set up a Wellcraft V-20/V-21 rendezvous. We are thinking about Cherrystone on the eastern shore (guys from Mass to Fla.) So far we are talking about a couple of weeks before Memorial Day or the first couple of weeks in June, nothing for sure yet.
I haven't fished that side at all that time of year and would love to hear your input as to what week might be better for fishing (what's biting), does this sound like a place that could accomidate a get together like this? Your input would be greatly appreciated.
For any of you TF's with V-20/21's we would love to hear from you!

http://www.wellcraftv20.com/

Thanks,
Scott

Flounder, Black Drum (Mother's Day weekend and for the first couple weeks following it are prime), Red Drum towards the end of May to the full moon on 6/10, Striper, Trout... man, that's PRIME TIME. You'd be wise to make reservations for this time-fram WAY in advance.

The VMRC newsletters are a good resource for what you are trying to do. They have 6 years worth of newsletters organized by date/month. Just click on the timeframe to see what is biting. Should give you a good idea.

Check this out! I looked at the VMRC link posted from tidalfish for the same week we are talking about(2005 report)........sounds pretty hot!!!!!

This is from Cape Charles
.................................................. ....................................

Chris' Bait and Tackle registered over a dozen red drum releases over the weekend, including a 49-inch fish for Matt Johnson (9-Foot Shoals) and 46 and 48-inch reds for Woo Davis (off Smith Island). Lara Jenrette registered three black drum releases at 46, 46-1/2 and 49 inches. All three drum were caught at buoy 16 aboard the BUCCANEER. Robert Savage, Jr. released a 30-1/2-inch grey trout at the Cell. The weekend flounder hot spot was buoy 36A and was no secret, as a flotilla of boats worked the site. The shop weighed six flounder over 7 pounds and heaviest was 8 pounds, 10 ounces and was caught by Stanley Parnell. No croaker of 3 pounds or more were seen but the bottom around buoy 36A was paved with 12 to 18-inch fish. Anglers fishing the Kiptopeke State Park Pier caught sea mullet and croaker throughout the day and had taylor bluefish and pan trout move in the shadows of the pier lights after dark.

OK Called Ann at Cheerystone, she says if we book fairly shortly she should be able to accomadate a large group of campsites all together for both June weekends ;D They currently have 17 of these sites with elec and water available both weekends and hundreds available with no hookups both weekends.
They also have rv/camper sites available for anyone towing or driving one and can put them close by the tent sites if we book soon
You can park your V20 at your site and she says the ramp is right down the street from the camp.
$44 a day site with elec and water
$46 a day site with with above for camper or RV
$35 a day site with no hook ups

There is a State Park around them called Kiptopeke St. Park and there # 800-933-7275

All camp prices are based on 4 people per site 2 adults and 2 under 18.
Super Models are free since they never sleep alone.

Willy,

Did you happen to ask about boat slips? I figured I will run the boat over and back, so I need a place to tie up. I wouldn't need any shore power or anything, just a place to tie up while we socialize. ;D I assume some of the other locals might do the same

No Shicks I did not ask about that, did not realize that you guys would be right there with boats, I'm jealous ;) Someone has their link listed on page two of this post, give them a call.

All right we're getting down to it , lets figure the first weekend in June the 2nd to the 4th. At Cheerystone in Va.
Now we are going to need to hear how many are going to do this. I'm sure we have some guys undecided , some unsure etc. so if we can pull this off, maybe get ahold of Wellcraft set up a couple of sponsors arrange super model coverage we are going to need some kind of list of who will actually commit to coming.
I'm sure no one wants to tow for a day or more to a location and have only half a dozen guys show as much as I would like meeting any of you Snaggers that just won't be practical.
So lets chime in with who is coming and get this ball rolling ;)

Either way would be good Franco, but I do think that the main pictoral emphasis should be on our beloved V's somehow if you can work that in with your Grand Poobah magic fingers ;D

I knew I had seenthat light before! .....
(I was wrong thinking it was Thomas Point....
It says it was Choptank River Light - I was off by twenty five miles - Cjoptank River is SSE of Annapolis)

Go raed....

CHERRYSTONE BAR LIGHT

Lighthouse Name: Cherrystone Bar Light
Location: South of Cape Charles Harbor; nearest Town/City is Cape Charles, Virginia to mark the channel into the Eastern Shore port.
Date Built: 1858
Type of Structure: Cottage style hexagonal screwpile lighthouse
Characteristics: Fourth order Fresnel Lens, in 1888 a red sector of about 210 degrees of arc was placed in the light with red showing the bay.
Foghorn: Bell
Appropriation: Built for almost $10,000.00
Status: No longer standing

Historical Information:

* The light was attacked by Confederate forces during the Civil War and was reestablished in 1862 by Union forces.
* Deactivated in 1919 and replaced with the automatic acerlene lantern on a caisson.
* The original hexagonal lighthouse was taken off its screwpile, moved by barge (October 1920 – April 1921) becoming the Choptank River Light in Maryland (also known as Benoni Point Light), making it the only lighthouse to ever be moved to another site to be used as a working navigational aid.

Keepers: Gunter one of the few black men in lighthouse service.

The above was researched and drafted by Catherine (Kitty) Price, a Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Light House Society volunteer.

Well MJ Blue says h@ll yea he's going to try and make it so we're creeping up here
I just want to remind all you guys that are thinking about it and or are planning to come we are all going to have to start booking campsites soon according to the lady at Cheerystone especially if we are going to camp together.
So over the next couple of days jump into the water and see if you can make it and we can start doing some planning.
I'm trying to think of a good Big Fluke prize, one that MJ would really like, so I can beat him and win it ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Blue_Runner

Best fluke prize = $$$

$5 per angler per day. End of day, pot is awarded to big fish. Or divide pot between top 3 if enough people enter.

Course, we might need to make it big Cobia instead of fluke 8) (JMHO - just my hopeful opinion)

Been offline for a few days, but seeing how yall are planning up trip close to me count me in! I figure if my v20 floats by then I can row it! ::) Unless I buy a working v20 by then :-/. Worst case I'll just have to borrow the old man's boat and hope that a 23' Wellcraft would be acceptable. :-[ In anycase, sign me up! I'll contribute even if I can't be there every day. Especially since I wont have to drive lots of hundreds of miles! 8)

2 Thumbs up on the artwork. Is this something that may become a T-shirt? If so, count me in for two!!!

Hey Jeff, it is a possible t shirt design - the guys weat of the missippi may have to plan their own event, and design their own shirts. This event is gonna be pretty close to my birthday, I'll be hitting the big FIVE-OH in june!!!

JeffXJ
01-18-2006, 02:46 AM
Franco, you just reminded me that's close to my birthday as well....But I'll still be a young-whipper-snapper! ::) :P Not sure if I'll turn 50 yet (or at least admint to it 8) ) Since I can still pass for a late 20something I don't think I'll have to worry about it for a while. Although, the last few times I bought beer I didn't get carded....Hmmmm

I know Oz, my wife keepd reminding me. Do I get diacount tackle?

willy
01-18-2006, 04:51 PM
No discount on tackle bro, but since I hit that milestone last year I can tell you from experience the woman love it ;)
That pic looks good buddy, would be a good shirt Hmmm
Can you make the Map part lighter colored or as just a bold outline, would probably look nicer on a shirt don't you think. If not leave it cause I do like the design it would make a good flier to put out at a couple of spots around here in Jersey.

Well guys it looks like the get together didn't have enough interest to build up any steam. Wish it could have been different but too long of a tow and too many vacation days for me with not enough guys to make a decent size event so I for one am dropping out, maybe next year.
I do want to hook up a more local thing for you Jersey Pennsy New Yorkers and Conn and Mass boys. Same dates so lets talk about it soon and pick a spot ;)

I think next time I try to put something like that together we will be better off doing three regionals, north central and south. Guys that have to far to tow could hook up with the guys from the area and fish out of their boats. Our boats are perfect for that and will give the guys an oppurtunity to fish local waters with guys who know it. Save a bunch of fuel and towing expense and give guys from different areas an inexpensive fishing trip they can plan for with some wild and crazy guys. Do it different times of the year based on what fishing is best and when.
I'm thinking mid summer on MacoJoe's Chatters, ::)
Alternate spring between Jersey Maryland and the Carolinas
Winter we visit the Grand Puhbah
Come to think about it that would actually work out pretty good and get a lot of guys together.

Willy, I've always had a vision of a FLEET of V-20s cruisin' together...Think that'd be COOL as all GIDDY-UP!!...wanna take some video...hope we can someday ;) 8) 8)

willy
06-12-2006, 11:55 PM
It would work if we plan it ahead of time, give guys a chance to schedule it and work out time off and financing. What do you think of the regional idea.
I for one am very sorry we did not do it this year, it's hard catching up to missed oppurtunity's.
