Wondering. The bow rail was all bent and ready to fall off so I went ahead and removed it. I'll prolly add an anchor roller to avoid havin' to go up on the bow at all.
Any CG req that I replace the bow rail? I never let anyone up there anyway...but, don't wanna run afoul of the regs. TIA

No, there is no CG requirement regarding bow rails. They're not needed, and the boat looks good without them. 8)

yes most boats look alright without them, i think the v20 bennefits from a bow rail, looks wise.

Charlie, I can't imagine the boat without it, It would look.... NAKED! :o
But really, I do use the bow area quite often it is definetly a necessity.

Speaking about the bow and all. Is there any Coast Guard rules not allowing persons on the bow when the boat is moving ??

quite certain that's a no-no here in N.Y., mostly a common sense thing....it CAN be dangerous legal or not, although I have been guilty of it myself .Though, absolutley no children up there while under way

safety i would never go with out my rail

Depending on a bow rail for safety is a false sense of security in my opinion. Most are constructed with set screw type fittings and come loose and or pull apart at the drop of a hat. A welded rail with through bolts is about the only type you can depend on with and piece of mind. ???

I guess I'm a BAD-DADDY...my kids have always ridden the bow...and always w/ PFDS of course...keep speed down and a real watchful eye for wakes, etc... ::)...

This bowrails bases were cracked and the rail bent. Must'a taken a hit dockside. I like it better bare.
Re; Bow riding...I used to let my black lab hang out on the front of my Bonito while I chased ducks. One day I almost caught up with one and my dog jumped overboard off the bow. I shut the motor down and jumped in after him. Thank God he was OK. I swore I'd never let'm do that again...he never tried either.

The angled joints on mine are all corroded, I was going to buy replacements for them and redo it but after seeing those boats without it I LIKE IT
What do you guys refill the deck holes with 5200 ?
Might be my rehab project on Old School since I can't get out and fish :-/

I think it will be hard to match the color so the holes don't show up, any suggestions from anyone if you are not going to paint the boat ???

I replaced my bow riail with a toe rail made from 1"x1" starboard (what else!). I glassed the deck holes from the rail stanchions and just drilled new holes for the toe rail. Still have something to stop me (or a screwdriver) before going over.

When I had the '72 V20 I was an anti-bowrail'er cause the bow rail on the boat was old and corroded and not much good, but with the '94 V-21 its welded stainless and I can do chin ups on it. I can't believe how much difference it makes compared to the correded type. :-/ I'm now pro-bowrail 8)

BUT, THEY DO LOOK NICE WITHOUT THEM TOO, DON'T THEY? ??? 8) :D
