For any of you guys interested in the history of the V20 I recently read a book entitled The fish is red. Its about the CIA involvement in Cuba. Lots of info about the pre Wellcraft V20s used for clandestine raids into Cuba. Seems that the early hulls were powered by twin 100 hp gray marines.

it'd be an instant sportsman's destination *;) 8) ...
. . . like it was back in Papa Hemingway's day. ;) Not to mention the nightlife and gambling. Only 90 miles from Key West, but it might as well be on the moon.

The author of The Fish is Red is Warren Hinkle and William Turner. Published by Harper and Row 1981
Aside from the v20s use lots of info about the CIAs war on Cuba and Kennedys role as well as the way the CIA used organized crime to do its bidding.

Hey Pipe and phester...let's start sending letters to Washington proposin' 51st state of Cuba ;) ;D ;D ;D

I got some old photos from a trip my mother and girlfriend of hers made to Cuba while Batista was still in power and I know my dad used to regularly go to Havana w/ his friends for gamblin' and nightlife...under new mgmt that place could be a reel "Getaway Destination"...Touristas Americanos would cover it up and leave behind a FLOOD of $$$$$ ;) 8) 8)...

they could leave Gitmo in tact and use for ''drunk-tank'' :o ;D

The company I work for has a facility in Venezuela that I am in contact with
on a regular basis.

So I keep up on the news from there.

Here is an interesting article concerning Cuba,
that came from one of the Venezuela newspapers.

By the way, I refrain from CITGO as well.

When Hugo Chavez took power in Ven,
he made a speach that not many people in the U.S.
heard.
In that speach he said the U.S. has had cheap oil for too long and it was time to make them (us) pay.
Those words have stayed with me ever since I heard them,
he might as well have stuck a knife in my back.

Kind of ironic considering Venezuela subsidizes fuel costs for their own people. It only cost 12 cents a gallon for gas in Venezuela.

gas or diesel .... they always want diesel when they export

They may have to pay .20 because of a refinery fire they just had.

THANK YOU REELAPEELIN FOR YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT
CASTRO AND CUBA. BEING A CUBAN-AMERICAN, I SECOND YOUR MOTION FOR STATE 51ST.

BAY OF PIGS DID NOT SUCCEED BECAUSE KENNEDY CHICKENED OUT, HE SENT 2,000 MEN TO FIGTH AND THEN CANCELLED THE AIR SUPPORT HE HAD PROMISED.

MY FATHER WAS ONE OF THEM, HE WENT BY BOAT BEFORE THE INVASION TO ORGANIZE INTERNAL RESISTANCE AND AFTER THE FIASCO WAS CAPTURED AND SPENT 22 YRS. IN JAIL, LUCKLY HE WAS NOT KILLED LIKE MANY OF HIS FRIEND.

YOU KNOW? IT IS VERY INTERESTING, WE CUBANS IN MIAMI ALWAYS THOUGT THAT NEWS ABOUT CUBA AND VENEZUELA OFTEN DON'T MAKE IT OUT OF MIAMI, BUT TO MY SURPRISE YOU GUYS ARE VERY WELL INFORMED OF WHAT'S GOING ON, AS FOR CITGO, I DON'T SPEND A PENNY IN THEM SINCE THOSE DOLLARS ARE GOING TO THAT PARROT CHAVEZ.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE EVER SEEN ONE OF HIS SPEECHES, HE LOOKS A PERFECT CANDIDATE FOR PARROT JUNGLE.

I have sen many of his speeches, as a matter of fact,
every Sunday night my friends in Venezuela are put through 4 hours of what they call torture (Hola Presidente).

The only thing is, I don't speak enough spanish to know what he is saying.
I do however understand the charts and numbers he holds up.

LESTERUS
07-28-2006, 02:39 PM
DON'T WORRY, I DO SPEAK PERFECT SPANISH AND STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND THE S%&T HE SAYS!!!!!

AS FOR THE 4 HRS. SPEECH, WHEN I WAS LIVING IN CUBA THE FORCED US TO GO TO CASTRO'S SPEECHES AND THEY LASTED ANYWHERE FROM 6-8 HOURS IN 100 DEGREES SUN.

THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT VENEZUELANS WATCH THEM ON T.V. (FOR NOW)

OOH YES, I DO!!!!

I LIVE IN A PLACE WHERE 80% OF MY NEIGHBORS ARE AMERICANS, AND I WAS VERY DISAPOINTED THAT LAST 4TH OF JULY MY HOUSE WAS THE ONLY ONE FLYING AN AMERICAN FLAG, MY SON DID NOT UNDERSTAND MY DISAPOINTMENT AND TOLD ME: "DAD, THEY ARE FREE TO PUT IT OR NOT, WHY DO YOU GET DISSAPOINTED?"

MY ANSWER WAS: "LET IT BE THE DAY THAT THEY ARE NOT ALLOW TO PUT THEIR FLAG FREELY IN THEIR DOORS AND YOU WILL SEE HOW MUCH THEY WILL MISS IT"

Really, I was born and raised here in the U.S.
and it is really an eye opener to just travel
into th ereal parts of foreign countries.
In other words, not the tourist areas that are squeeky clean to
put up a front.
When I come home from my South American business trips,
I always feel like falling down and kissing the ground,
after I get through customs of course. :D

I get into frecuent fiendly arguments with some of my friend that are americans, either of Cuban descent or
4th or 5th generations american. They claim that because I love my country of origin, Cuba , I can't love the U.S., nothing further than the truth, I always use this example: "You love your wife, dont'n ya?, Is that mean you stop loving your mother?, no. Well, I love Cuba, because i was born and raise there, but I also love this country, because I'm an American by choice.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE HEAR THE NEWS YET, BUT LAST
NIGTH, THERE WAS A BIG FUSS DOWN HERE, CASTRO (ACCORDING TO CUBAN TV) TRANSFERED ALL THE POWERS "TEMPORARILY" TO HIS BROTHER, RAUL CASTRO, BECAUSE HE WAS OPERATED FOR INTERNAL BLEEDING. KNOWING HOW THE CUBAN "GOVERMENT" OPERATES I THINK THE OLD MAN EITHER DITCHED IT OR IS READY TO DIE. IN ANY CASE WE'RE ALREADY HAVING FUN.

Just read this:

In one rare interview in early 2001, Raul spoke with unusual frankness about his older brother's eventual death and encouraged the United States to make peace with Cuba while Fidel was still alive.

"I am among those who believe that it would be in imperialism's interest to try, with our irreconcilable differences, to normalize relations as much as possible during Fidel's life," Raul said in the interview with state television. Later, he said, "it will be more difficult," implying he would be harder to deal with.

Raul, a political hardliner, belonged to a Communist youth group even before the revolution. The elder Castro didn't publicly embrace socialism until 1961.

But on the economic front, he showed signs of flexibility.

As defense minister, Raul has overseen some of Cuba's most important experiments with limited market-style reforms. Military units produced and sold food at free markets and the military ran an important tourism company, Gaviota.

He also expressed interest in China's version of free-enterprise socialism during a November 1997 visit.

BTW if we're going to continue on this tack maybe we should move to Off Topic section. ;)

Maybe TS Chris will jog SW a little and SUCK both the Castro bastards right off that beautiful island and drop their dead, broken bodies into the Gulf of Mexico for the sharks to feed on...I hate bullies on any scale...They've brought so much pain and suffering to their people while living a great life themselves...they are thugs too stupid to realize what a great country Cuba could be...

PIPEDREAM:

IT'S FUNNY HOW THE AMERICAN MEDIA HAS BEEN TRYING TO ANALIZE THE CUBAN SITUATION, AS FOR MY
RAUL IS AS GUILTY AS FIDEL IN THE CUBAN ORDEAL, AND DESERVES THE SAME PUNISHMENT AS HIS BROTHER.

NOW, AS TO THE ECONOMY, HE LIKES THE CHINESE MODEL, THE PROBLEM IS THAT WE ARE NOT CHINESE, CUBA WAS, BEFORE THIS SOB, A FULL BLOWN CAPITALIST COUNTRY, CUBANS NEVER VIEWED AMERICANS AS ENEMIES, BUT RATHER AS GOOD NEIGHTBOURS THAT WERE WELCOMED IN ORU COUNTRY.

WHEREAS CHINA WENT FROM FEUDALISM TO COMUNISM,
NEVER KNEW CAPITALISM NTILL NOW.

THE OTHER THING IS THAT CASTRO'S REVOLUTION WAS BASED ON FIDEL'S PERSONALITY, I DON'T THINK HIS BROTHER WILL BE ABLE TO DO THE SAME, AT SOME POINT, IF HE'S SMART, WOULD HAVE TO LET IT GO.

LESTERUS.

i am all for people celebrating thier heritage and thier culture. i just get agrivated sometimes cause we in the south get called so many bad things for celebrating ours. all to often criticized by peeps who can barely speak english. we cant pray in school. cant even teach about jesus as a man, much less an entity. in texas, teachers cant teach about the alamo anymore cause it might make the mexican students look bad! did you know that lowes doesnt even sell christmas trees anymore! now thier holiday trees. seperation of church and state? wake up and smell the christmas! what the date anyway? bring us ur tired, ur hungry, ur weary! but dont tell us how to live when you get here! the clan were a bunch of ignorant, tobbaco road rednecks but, when i drive past a house and see a mexican flag, or a peurto rico flag, or any foriegn flag i cant help but think, "theres a good place to burn a cross". united =unity wich means, one country, one language, one flag!
i know this wont be a popular post. might hurt someones feelings. might even get me banned from this forum. but, i love my country and i will bleed on the flag if thats what it takes to keep the stripes red!

whats the frequency keneth?

GUYS, MY MOTHER ALWAYS TOUGHT ME TO RESPECT OTHER PEOPLES' CULTURES, RELIGIONS AND OPINIONS
AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE A GOOD ADVISE. I DON'T HAVE AN ISSUE WITH PEOPLE BEING PROUD OF THEIR
HERITAGE, LIKE FOR INSTANCE, PEOPLE IN THE SOUTH FLY THE CONFEDERATE FLAG, THAT DOES NOT OFFEND ME.
BUT I WAS ALSO TOUGHT TO RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE HOMES AND I CAN NOT FORGET FOR A SECOND THAT I LIVE IN OTHER PEOPLE'S LAND, (EVENTHOUG I'M A US CITIZEN) WOULDN'T CROSS MY MIND TO CHANGE THE RULES OF THIS COUNTRY. IF YOU WERE A MUSSLIM I BET YOU COULD SAY ALLAH IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL, NO BIG DEAL, AHHH, BUT DON'T SAY "UNDER GOD" BECAUSE
YOU'RE IN TROUBLE.
IT'S NOT US REFUGEES DOING THIS, IT'S THE AMERICAN
LIBERAL MEDIA. I BET YOU ANYTHING THAT I LOVE THIS COUNTRY MORE THAN THOSE IN CNN AND COMPANY, BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT IT'S WORTH.
