View Full Version : v20 cc wanted
Hello all,
I've been doing alot of reading on this site and am starting to fall for the v20. I have had a classic Mako and was just about to try the "other" classic when I saw a v20 at the marina and really liked the hull. I saw one here in NJ a couple of weeks ago but by the time I called the guy it was sold. I like the layout of the '77-'80 center consoles with the split bench in the bow so you can still fish from inside the boat if you prefer. I also really like all of the teak on these model years. If anyone knows of one(not a total basket case) for sale please let me know. Great site, keep it up.
Thanks,
Ken

KMW, welcome!
Here's one, where you located?
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/7/6/84969576.htm
Thanks Tinman,
I actually e-mailed them on that one a few days ago. It seems its in pretty bad shape, needs a transom and floor for sure, no power and pretty poor trailer, plus its 1200 mls away. I'm in Red Bank, NJ. I'll keep looking. What are the things I should be looking for specific to these boats? I know the basics, floors, transoms, deck caps, etc. Other than those is there anything unique to the v20's?

Hey Ken, I'm not sure of what kind of shape its in but there is a 70's V20 CC on RTE 47 in Cape May Court House, NJ for $5400 or $4400 I can't remember which. It looks to be a late 70's or early 80's model. I didnt stop to look but it has a 200 Yamaha on it and a Galv trailer. I will try an get a number off it this weekend if you want.
Hey thanks Mulv,
That sounds great! Let me know what you find out, I really prefer that late '70's/early '80's style with the split bow platforms, something about standing in the boat as opposed to on it. If you find something out you can e-mail me:
[email protected].
Thanks,
Ken

Welcome KMW, I haven't lived up there in 30 years, but I grew up (maybe not as much as I should have) in Matawan. I'll post here if I see anything in the Annapolis area. If you find anything down here perhaps I can take a look at it for you

Yes tin is right!! I saw that he said a old yammie on it and noticed the add said Mariner.
Thanks for all of the searching guys! I just got home and saw that many of you have been keeping an eye out for me. I definitely want a center console and from the research I've done it seems that the split benches was only between '77 and '80 or '81.
Thanks again for all of your help,
Ken
Hey guys, there's a '80 cc that just came up on boat trader in Fla. Does anyone know if the'80 has the split casting decks in the bow? In the gallery section there is no brochure from 1980 to see, but 1981 looks to have gone back to the big casting platform. If anyone know the answer it would help me out.
Thanks,
Ken

KMW , I think the 1980 does have those seat/boxes in the bow . I had an 1980 catalog until a couple of weeks ago . Maco Joe was nice enough to volunteer to scan and post it when he can get to a full page scanner . I'm almost 100 % positive of the layout . You will love that boat , good luck ...

labii's right about that...was aboard his CC recently...he even let me drive it...what a nice set up and a REEL scooter, too...
;) ;D ...thanks again, labii ...that was fun 8) ;D 8) ...
Thanks for the info guys. I called down there this morning and spoke with the sales gal, real nice, it seems they sold the boat to the current owner several years ago and have performed all of the maintenance since then. It is supposed to be in real fine shape, has a t-top, dodger, decent alum. trailer, and was never bottom painted. Its got a 235 Evinrude on it that runs well(so they say), isn't that too big for a 20 foot boat? They claim the transom is solid as well as the floors, but I won't know until I see it for myself. It's in central Fla. near Melbourne. They're going to take some more photos of it for me so I can see as much as possible before I decide to make a trip down there or not. If anyone from here is near there and wouldn't mind having a look-see I would greatly appreciate it. I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks,
Ken

KMW:
I run a 235 on a 74 CC and except for fuel consumption, 235 are thirsty. I have no problems with the engine on this hull.

I just picked up a 74 cc V20 yesterday. I paid $200.00. but it has no motor and a weak transom. The rest of the boat looks to be in good shape though.

Here's another 1980 CC for sale....doesn't look like it has the deck layout you're looking for....unless the year is posted wrong ???

KMW, that one in FL may be OK....just be sure to check out that transom well. There's a reason part of the transom is black, it may be a metal plate reinforcing a rotten transom.

That other 1980 in GA I posted above looks like it has transom issues also.
Thanks TinMan, I will certainly check it out before I buy. The one in Ga. looks as if its been messed with quite a bit. The console is one of those Todd units you can buy at the local marine supply and the deck is either carpeted or had been redone sloppily, I can't really tell from the photos. I hope that the one in Fla. checks out o.k. but if not I'll keep looking. I'm pretty jazzed about these boats, I haven't seen anything else that catches my fancy as much. I'm sure there is a good reason all of you are as crazy about them as well. I sure appreciate all of the help, I hope to be joining the club soon.

Let me know if I can help. I live in Melbourne.
Bob
Bob, the place is called Aquatech Marine in Palm Bay, Fla., is that near you? They said they were in the Melbourne area. If it's no trouble for you It would be great if you could take a look at it before I drive down. I don't expect a 26 year old boat to be perfect but I don't want a total basket case either. Thanks again guys. Maybe I can even have it for the first annual v20 tourney.
