Been out in the V-20 everyday. It's been running great. Tops out at 40 but, sounds better at 30. I'm ready for a boat trip to the Keys.
Got stopped by the feds looking for illegals. I told'm "I didn't have any today". They did not think it was funny. The Lt. told me to leave my sense of humor at home. :-[

Yea brother sounds like you guys got to rise up and slay some of the politicos, I don't get a night differential, but have an outstanding pension and it starts 20 yrs 50% no benefits, 25 years full pension 65% and full benefits max out at 30 years with 70 % one percent per year after 25 max 70% and benefits. I got 28 years and the Nov 8th election in the town will determine if I make Captain or put my papers in to retire March 1st 2007, I am not on the current political sleazeballs hit list, I didn't make to where I am by puckering up to him, instead by being number one on all the civil service promotional exams and being a veteran that they could not skip. So now they have the Captains job empty and have a couple of super suckers doing that job refusing to promote me. If the election goes good they will be making me Captain and expecting me to straighten out the unethical sh!thole it has turned into.
Should be a lot of fun. Either way will work for me, if I don't get the Capt. bars in January then I will leave with 68% of my pay and benefits and go to work for Reel Crabby Enterprizes Fla. ;D

I like DD and KK. But where I grew up there was a significant German influence, and local bakeries were THE thing. Nothing like that around here. As for coffee, it just needs to be strong and black.

I grew up in northern Kentucky. The "Greater Cincinnati" area received a lot of German immigrants, my ancestors were among them.
Grits in the South, I grew up eating goetta with my eggs. Anyone here know what that is?

For me its K K all the way. Grew up with one in town and liked to watch them make um, then eat them while still hot. First time my wife tried one she said they were better then sex, ofcourse I have stepped up to the challenge and she dont say that any more.
CHEESE GRITS PLEASE and add some bacon. Easy reciepe, Plain Quaker instant grits, add some shredded sharp cheese and some of those artifical bacon bits, stir in boiling water and ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, (excuse me I had to clean the slobber off my keyboard), then dig in.
You aint lived till you had some cheese grits and some cheese coffee. You wont find that at K K or D D. Add some shredded cheese in the bottom of you cup then pour in the coffee. Its a southern thing, but I am tring to teach it to these people around here.
Getting ready to grab the camera now and take some pictures.

Very good, Parishht!
Actually it is often compared to scrapple, but as one who has consumed a LOT of goetta and a little scrapple, I WAY prefer goetta. Ground pork and beef, and pin oats instead of corn meal, and spices. We have our own family recipe. ;)
Another area specialty is Cincinnati chili. Nothing like it anywhere. Again, we have our own recipe (and it's really good with venison -- I call it Lowcountry Cincinnati chili!).
I may have to git in the kitchen an rattle dem pots an pans this weekend.

WOW, i just thught i would cruise the forum while waiting on my lazy *** nephew to show up so we can go to work. now i am STARVING. dont remember who but, someone sais something about instant grits. that dude should be banned. every self respecting southerner knows thier is only two kinds of grits. home made, and Girls Raised In The South! i eat 'em both.
i know we dont have a cooking section yet but, i am frying some reds tonight and would love that recipe for tartar sauce. for a bartar i offer this tip for grilling leg quarters- boil them in crab boil for a minute or three before you throw them on the grill.

Oh yeah, definitely need the recipe section....I might even post pics for you guys ::)
I've cooked twice this week alone: Sunday grilled spanish mackerel, suddenly salad bacon/ranch, brocoli and cheese, homemade coleslaw, dinner rolls. Monday grilled chicken with mustard sauce - this is one kickin tail sauce - brussel sprouts and tossed salad w/ dinner rolls.
One of my favorites is cooking deer hams/shoulders/tenderloin over wood coals pig pickin style. We do it just like lexington style bbq. We have a big burn barrel blazing to produce the coals. Start early and pick at it all day. Doesn't get much better than thatn on a nice cold day. ;) 8)

Hey Blue: man I miss those N.C. pig pickings. They are showing up around here but they got the sauce all wrong and thats what makes it so good.
