Fellas,

A few of you guys got the Merc 470. First time winterizing this engine. Its got a closed coolant system. How do you guys winterize?? I already pulled the drain plug on the raw water on the heat exchanger. Can't be all??

drain the block and closed system and refill with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water

is the FWS already have anti freeze in it?? If so thats fine!!

What I use to do was fill a bucket with RV antifreeze, set it on the rear of the boat, Bucket must drain from bottom. a hole drilled and a 1" pvc glued in is fine. Clamp with Vise Grips or something?

Then start the motor with the muffs on the lower unit. when you start let the anti freeze flow and when you see it coming out the excaust you can shut her down, now you have anti in both spots and you good for the winter.

all you have to do is treat the fuel( don't forget to run the engine long enough to allow the treated fuel to reach the carb),, fog the engine with storage oil, and drain the heat exchanger, the power steering cooler( if you have one) will drain out thru the exchanger. After youre done, lower the drive, change the gear oil, greas the gimball bearing, disconnect the battery and you bea ready till next spring
