I know I give Ford guys tons of crap!!

But I am looking at new trucks, and there is nothing out there under $30,000 in a 3/4 ton Ext Cab 4X4 in Chevy
Well there is, but they have to be ordered.

Any way I have it on good source that there might be some left over 2006 F250 diesel's around for short money, mid 20's.

I have never owned a Diesel and want to know some of the maintenance issues and special things that they might need different from there Gas brothers.

Thanks

Only thing with any diesel is keep the air, fuel and oil filters changed. Change oil regular. I had one that I had 375,000 on. I have gas now but I won't ever buy another gas truck.

the only thing i can tell you is my brother and father both have deisel Rams and they love them. enough power to pull a house, and good gas mileage.

I've never owned a diesel but I've talked to some people that had experience with the Ford 6.0 liter and had various problems. They said it wasn't as good as the 7.3. Ford has now stopped using the 6.0 and have a new 6.4 liter for 2007.

Plus with a diesel you get to enjoy the smell of fuel on your hand for the next 24 hrs. after you fill up.

Diesel fuel has been and most likely will contiue to be more expensive than reg. gas...anybody wanna tell MJ what an oil-change costs on one ;) ...

The guy I run offshore with has a Power Stroke...his second, and he likes 'em a lot...tows his 28'er like a champ and a construction trailer, too...He'll probably get another when he wears this one out ;) ...

The Ford 7.3 is actually an International engine. It will run trouble free for a million miles.

hey I Love my Chevy Diesel that i have 220,000 on the current one, had a 99 Dodge 2500 cummings before much better motor. I wouldn't buy a 6.0 *ford though due to tooo many problems and broken cranks. They cost more to change oil in due to most of the hold average of at least 2 gallons or more of oil. But you don't change the oil as often in them. they say 8,000 to 10,000 on oil changes unless you use syn. rot. oil then 12,000 to 15,000 mile changes. I change mine every 9,500 to 10,000 miles. Ford diesel don't get the fuel mileage that Chevy Diesel's get. Fuel filters should be changed every 15,000 miles but i change mine every oil change. You can't go wrong with a diesel. i average 21 in town and 23 hwy but in tow of the 250 i get 18 town 20 hwy. that's at 70 to 75 MPH.

I wouldnt buy a Ford 6.0 either . The old 7.3s were good , but loud as hell . My first pick would be a Dodge . You cant compare the other truck engines to the Cummins . Just do a search and you will see that they come in alot of the big rigs and will last a million miles . My second pick would be the Chevy because they have the better trans out there and are said to be getting good milage . I currently own a F150 so I am not anti Ford .

Any interest?

Is yours diesel?

No, mine is a Hemi! 345 horsepower and 315 foot lbs of torque. She tows the V like there is nothing behind her at all. ;D

But if you do want a deisel. The Cummins Deisel that Dodge uses is the best deisel they make. My father owns several tractor trailers, and has owned all forms of deisels (CAT, Detroit, Volvo) and her swears up and down he will never buy anything else again unless it is a Cummins. Great motor, no trouble, and cheaper to fix than a Cat or Powerstroke.

Thanks all,

Reel I want a Brand New truck!!

Nothing wrong with mine its just that this is that last year I am going to have kids for my taxes, and i want a new truck while I have the money! I want it to be around for the next 10years!

07 Chevy are all around $33,000 & diesel is $40,000 or better!

I have to go $30 or below in order to be able to do it. I have heard so many good things about diesel and now there might be a few left overs for cheap?

I still hate the Idea of a Ford, and if these left overs are 6.0 I will say forget it!

I an so confused!! :-/

when you look at diesel sites the ones that have the most problems are 6.5 Turbo 94 up Chevy and 6.0 Turbo Ford. the Dodge Cummings, Ford 6.9 and 7.3 Turbo, and Chevy 6.2, 6.5 (93 Only) and 6.6 Turbo are the ones you never hear any troubles with for the most part.

The only issue with the 94 up 6.5 Chevy is the electronic injection pump are pron to die alot due to PMD over heats.

MJ,

Find someone you know who has a dealers license, go with them to the local dealer only auto auction. Big pickups and SUV's are dirt cheep for 1 or 2 year old stuff right now. Probably get what you want for half the price of new.

If it was me, I would stay with an early 07(built in 06). I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig for the ULSD engines with particulate filters and so on and so on. The 6.0 POWERSTROKE isn't all bad, neither is the 94+ 6.5's. As with anything there are good ones and bad one's, unfortunately those 2 experienced a higher level of bad than previuous models. If I was going new it would be GM or DODGE, but GM would be my first choice. The DMAX/ALLISON is an excellent combo that has been out long enough to prove itself reliable. There were some issues with the LLY's overheating, but the LBZ's resolved those. CUMMINS has had there share of problems with injectors and turbos as well. And FORD has come a long with the 6.0 since engines built in 01/05 on.

The biggest thing to remember is pick the one that fits you, not just the one that fits your budget. Also, you need to decide if diesel is really for you? If you don't tow much heavy(7,000+), then you may end up spending alot MORE in the long run going diesel VS gas. This just the $.02 worth of a former certified diesel tech(forced early retirement, car crash).

MJ, if the diesel math doesn't work out for you, I've got an 05 Chevy 2500HD Crew Cab w/ 6.0 gasser. We've had it for 16 months and 46,000 miles. The truck has been absolutely trouble free. I've towed boats as big as a GW 282Marlin w/ no problems. I would have liked to have had the oil burner, but the up front price and maintenence didn't fit with my useage and needs. Anyhow, don't forget that Chevy makes a nice gasser.

I tow the Boat all over the place in the summer!! trailer and full load got to be close to 5000#
I tow my camper about 6 to 10 times a summer and it is almost 8000# But I never go far as I don't have a truck that i feel would be good to tow long distance!

All the Chevys are $40 grand and is way to rich for me!!

I am not a huge fan of Ford, but these left overs to catch my eye!

I haven't even looked at Dodge, cause I am a Chevy guy.

From what you say your going to tow, I think a 2500HD with a 6.0 gasser will MORE than do what you want. Start looking for a leftover 06 and use the rebates to get you where you want to be.

I just saw it but I did not go there yet. I think the fords I have heard of are 6.0's?

I have also done some 06 Chevy 2500 searches and found a few for $28,000

The Fords are suppose to be around $25,000 for the Diesel's

I am so confused!! Really I am! I have never been a fan of Ford, but do like there comfort better then Chevy, I have had both!!

But Ford gas motors suck compared to Chevy!!

And I have never owned a Diesel and I hate not knowing, cause I like to do most of my own work.

And I found a 2005 GMC 2500 with 1000 miles on it for $24.995 but I don't know what engine it has. Or whats it story??

This is going to be interesting!!
