the peanuts are so thich you can walk on them. i dont have my cast net so i start snaggin em. so thick im snaggin two, three and four on each snag. so thick im just drifting with the school and bouncing the snagger up and down.
bout 20 minutes later i have about 100 peanuts so i decide to check out the inlet. we got 6-8 foot BREAKERS comin in so i take a diagonal drift along the inside jetty... figured to take a few weakies. cel phone rings so i pick up... its my mom.
all of a sudden my rod starts bouncing but good. i drop the phone and set the hook.
hell, this aint no weakfish. feels like a nice size bass or sumpin.
pull er up and im lookin at a doormat fluke. been lookin for this fish all season and of course the season closed last week. she went about 9-11 pounds. killed me to let that fish go.
just my luck.

You guys season "closes"? That sucks a big one.
I'd have taken a chance on the fine for a fish like that.

sure it was tough releasing that fish but rules are rules. i know a guy who never caught a short in his life. always goes home with a full cooler. he is helping nobody but himself. i know this is not the reason for all our restrictions (commercial fishing) but thats just the way it is gents.
our season in new york ran from may 6th to september 12th. 18 inch minimum 4 fish per day.
a little tough but if you saw the channel on a summer sunday you would understand.
you will encounter the italian navy and the ***ish fleet and not a dam one of them knows what they are doing. .
(im both ***ish and italian so i dont want to hear anybody being over sensitive out there).
Congrats on the fish, and the release ;D

How would you know? The biggest thing you ever caught was a small, damp washcloth :)

It was the last 2 times not 3...and that's ok because I've out fished you for the last 20-30 years...so there!
Blackfishing season starting soon, ready for some fiddlers? woooosh! :) ;D
WTG Charlie on releasing that doormat, props to ya! ;)
I always carry my camera now just for that reason.
Last October I caught a 35lb. striper on the tin boat, no camera. Had to keep it but wish I didn't.
