What size rode and how much do you carry? I've got 300' of 3/8" that I've used for a long time, and it's time to replace it. It's got too many chafed spots in it and being that I'm focusing on anchoring these days, may as well spend some more money ::)

Most of youz guys using 1/2"? And how much rode does everyone carry?

Thanks,

i like 1/2 to 5/8, not for the strenght( good 3/8 is probably strong enough), but for something to hold on to, 1/2 is a whole lot easier to bring in by hand than smaller rode, especially after your hands get wet

Spare, I agree on 1/2" being much easier to handle. I don't think going to half would hurt me on storage capacity too much.

Definately 1/2" over the 3/8" I've gotten more than a few rope burns from the smaller diameter stuff over the years from loosing my grip. Save the 3/8" for the smaller skiffs or dock lines. ;)

Also 1/2" won't knot as easy. Around here the water depth is so shallow a 100' and a 50' is all we need unless going 15 miles offshore.

A few times a year I'll anchor up in as deep as 130'. I can get away with only 300' of rode because the weather is gonna be pretty darn nice if I'm that far off. Otherwise I'm almost always inside 70'.

Thanks for the thoughts. Stepping up to 1/2".

YEP, I USE 1/2" TOO. I carry about 350' of rope and have about 6' of chain. I like overkill. Better safe than sorry. Plus I have another 50' of rope and 3' of chain for my stern anchor that I could quickly attach to the bow line.

I have about 250 ft of 1/2, going to get another 150 just for good measure. Even in shallower water it is nice to have some more to let out incase you catch all the fish in that spot. Another 100 ft of line out could put you on the big un's.

Walmart has 150 lengths of 1/2 rope for 24 bucks with a metal eye on one end. *I guess if you needed longer you could get 2 and splice them.

Thats the kind I have, I tied a clip on the end of one so I can clip it to the other when needing long rode, but I dont know how that would work with the puplit and hawse pipe.
