Those rigger bases are the same my boat had.
Grandaddy had them installed at the boatyard where he bought the boat in "75.
Now their long gone, except for the holes in the gunwales. :'(

Reel, we ditch the the bungee's and the cord onour riggers, instead use 80# mono and use a short piece of line that runs thru a cheek block(sail bote stuff), saw it on a Viking once and tried it, you can adjsut the tension to handle what ever speed your trolling or however much drag you have, when you store the riggers upright for running, you can really tighten the lines to keep them from flapping

Reel,

The day is fast approaching.

We are going down on the 25th, be there through the 3rd.

When we were there last week the surf was full of weeds, the kind that hold dolphin. Reports were that dolphin were within 5 miles of the beach and kings were in the surf.

The wind was blowing when I was there so I didn't test out the reports, but plan to soon.

it worked good for us,I've converted several other boats to that set up with no complaints. how do those riggers work out on the v, was thinking about putting some on mine, right now I've got three down riggers in the shed, would use them in Moultie if there were any stripers, but no one is catching any. No one around here uses downriggers offshore

These Rigger Bases are by a company called SOS ... they're reel nice ones with good operation ... the poles are about the cheapest I could find and work good, too ...the "heart" of the system, though are the release clips ... I used the Goldfinger clips cause of the adjustability ... quick, easy and very precise ... don't get to use the riggers a lot, but they've performed great on all the kings we've been able to get on... ;) ...

last report before I left the marina, five sails released, no marlin, big dolphin was 31( two weeks ago it was 56), no tuna, 39 wahoo, half the fleet didn't fish today because of that front that rolled thru last night. There was some high dollar hardware on the dock today, I'll get some pics tomorrow at the weigh in

Major Motion called in a Bill Fish release about an hour ago, must be a Marlin, no one would call in a sail, and yes they are catching sails close in

REEL,

Thats the normal weather summer pattern. The 15 kt winds will be in the afternoon when it gets hot.

Get outside at daylight and fish til the wind picks up, then you have a nice following sea back in. ;)
