Got up Saturday morning at about 5am to go fishing with my oldest son to find out that some SOBs had broken into my patio to cut out the front of the center console and steal all my new electronics and gauge… and I did not hear a thing. I guess it was best not to hear a thing because I would have not hesitated to shoot at them. They came prepared with the tools to do a clean job and knew what they were doing. I hate to say it but I suspect an inside job – someone who was aware of the new equipment I had installed and it’s value. Yard people, pool guy even friends of my neighbor’s 20 year-old son. It’s very particular that neither my son’s American Bulldog, who was spending the night at my house, nor my neighbor’s two German Shepard barked. Normally these dogs would have created such a rumble that the whole neighborhood would have heard. Needless to say, I’m very frustrated. It’s incredible that in a few minutes some punks can destroy months of hard work. Sorry for the lengthy posting but needed to share my hurt with people that are as passionate about their V20 as I am. And of course – pictures to go along.

What's next. Boat Alarms? This is horrible and I am sorry to see such hard work be destroyed like that. Due to the fact that my yard is too small for our boat, my father and I must keep ours in public storage. Fortunately, the yard owner has camera's installed but still you never know. Sorry to see this.

Thanks guys for your kind words! And yes, I'm going to Radio Shack at noon and check out the alarms and get at least a motion sensor for that area. I could not sleep last night thinking that they could be back for the thru-hull depth/temp sensor that goes along with the Furuno chart plotter they stole.

Man that really does suck and thiefs should be hung by the BALLS when caught. Crooks are worthless scumbags who have no conscience whatsoever.

Builder my heart absolutely goes goes out to you. Please tell me that insurance will cover your replacement costs.

I agree with you that it's wierd the dogs didn't bark. Maybe they knew the prowler.

I know your pain!! While at the campground a couple of years ago they stole, fish finder, gps and tackle >:(

I reported to the camp owner who did not want me to call police cause he did not want a bad rep at his camp ground, he insured me he would do everything to help me get my stuff back! YEA RIGHT!!

2 days later I bought all new stuff so I could fish, I wasn't going to miss a season with out my stuff.

well 2 days after that he called me to the office to show me that he got everything back including things I did not even know was gone!

I guess there were some things going on there that no one knew about and I was not alone, they caught the guys and got most all stuff back and the people that did not get there things back were given cash for there loss.

Keep an eye open for your stuff at pawn shops, crigslist ect ect thats what they do with stuff here.

At least they cut it out nice, and not broke everything!!

Good Luck!

Well I only have liability insurance on the boat but perhaps my homeowner's policy will cover it...and then there's that $1,000 deductible. It will find out on Monday. Again thanks for the moral support. On a good note, the motor and all the switches are working.

I have 25 Aquasport center console that I face mounted a color GPS in. I thought by using bolts with security heads I might slow down someone who might want it. Looking how they took yours apart I guess I might be wrong? Sorry for your loss.

Kami,

Same here and did we have a hard time flush mounting that Furuno - The access from the back of the console was almost impossible. It never occurred to me that a thieve with a cordless Dremel and cut-off wheel could cut out the entire console and get away with it. We know better now.

Macojoe,

I have close to no hope that I will ever see my equipment again. Was talking to a cop friend of mine and he's telling me that they are so stretched out with big crime, that unless the equipment if found as a result of another crime investigation, it's on e-bay tomorrow. They can steal my equipment, but like you, they are definitely not going to take my spirit. Today I installed the DC connection for my old reliable Garmin 12 XL GPS and I re commissioned my retired Raytheon L265 fishfinder. Will see later how I go about getting the V shipshape, but for now - whatever gets me back the quickest. Thanks!

randlemanboater2

Fl, I hate that happened to you.

If you have the serial numbers to the equipment, report it to the cops anyway, they will put it in the system so if they show up at a pawn shop or like they said, they are found in another crime, you will get em back.

BuilderFL
08-05-2007, 09:22 PM
Randle, good idea - will do it. You know, PSA (Public Service Aide) that came by to make the report never asked for serial numbers. Thanks!

msbhammer
08-05-2007, 09:24 PM
The cops should have asked for serial numbers, for NCIC entry. :-/

BuilderFL
08-05-2007, 09:49 PM
Hammer, it wasn't a real cop- it was a PSA. Are they using the same system?

msbhammer
08-05-2007, 09:50 PM
Did the cops at least do prints at all ?
We are required if the value is over a thousand.

BuilderFL
08-05-2007, 09:54 PM
No cops - no prints...nada. The PSA lady asked for my driver's license and home number and went back to her car. Five minutes later she came back with a card (about the size of a business card) with a contact/case number, the district/unit and her name and ID number.

randlemanboater2
08-05-2007, 09:56 PM
If the "PSA" gave you a case number, just call them back and they can add the serial numbers to the report. You may want to follow up with a real cop to make sure the numbers get entered.

Here in NC, all pawn activity is recorded and given to the cops to check against stuff taken in crimes. The pawn shops are real good about working with us because Crime Stoppers pays them back whatever money they have in the stolen stuff.

Never heard of PSA before. As what Randleman said, contact a real cop. Pawns shops are a great place to start, but more then likely they will be on some ele's boat. This really sucks :-/

Get the real thing over there!!

Watch online ads, there is a guy here that had a motor stolen, next day it was on crigslist, he called cops, set up a meet to buy his own motor, after deal was done cops moved in!!

Sorry Builder, there is walking sh!t everywhere, there always has.
Follow the advise and get the items reported with a serial and model number along with any owner applied number you may have done.
If they are seized somewhere the PD where it is seized will do a NCIC or SCIC check on the items and if they are not entered correctly they will be auctioned off somewhere or destroyed.
The person who came to your house is the governments way of saving money and not hiring enough cops to do the job. All they want is a report number to justify their existance and to provide a number for insurance purposes.
There will be no investigation as there should be and no evidence recovered to tie a perp to a crime.
If you want that sounds like you need to do the checking around yourself. Likely from the sound of it you are right about a inside job of some kind. But a couple of things to think about, whoever did it cqme in prepared, in the dark and new how to cut it out without spending much time and making any noise.
Sounds like an experienced mariner or someone who grew up around it and done the work themselves. Thats a pretty clean cut for a normal thief. JMHO

Oh yea, talk with the people who sold you the units and/or the install, find out if anyone else had thefts, might ring a bell with them. Unless it is a small operation with one or three employees, in that case just kind of show up and look around.

Oh man that sucs.

No I was not in Florida.

Probably druggies.

Was yours the only one in the area to be hit?

Anyway, MJ, I keep my V at my trailer and believe me the owners of our park will not hesitate to get
police involvement.
Two years ago, some kids went through the marina and ransacked boats and left some loose.
Cops were all over that and the parents got police escorts out of the park.
As a matter of fact, the De state cops have access to the park
at all times and it is not unusual to see a patrol car come through
at 2 AM.

HAMMER can atest to the security, our park owners want to know who is in the park at all times.

That SUX!

Even something cordless and portable is going to make a good bit of noise cutting fiberglass. That's amazing that they got the whole console.

Your original suspicions may be very accurate as being an inside job.
Cutting hands off would be too good for the offenders.

G%$ Da%$ Theives. They should be hung by their anatomy with piano wire if and when they are caught and then have the living sh#@ kicked out of them. Then we can be civil and take them to court to be sent to Bubbas house. Good luck on getting your stuff back Builder.

Sorry to hear, and very sorry to hear you are in Florida.

Cops here seem to have other things to do, even in low crime area's like mine. One time our subdivision had some thugs come through and slash tires, break car windows, and destroyed the convertable top on my Mustang, well over $1500 in damage here, and total in the subdivision had to be more than $4000 to $6000. No one came out from police. All they would do was take report over the phone, and mail a copy to us. That is it!!! Pasco County Florida tax dollars at work..

Few weeks later a friend was driving his boat onto trailer at ramp and got a DUI....... 3 cop cars stake out the boat ramp every couple of weeks.

Hammer, thanks for the heads up on the Gorilla alarm. Very clever idea on your part to use a 100% waterproof motorcycle alarm on the V. Perfect application and for the price, you can't go wrong even if you think you don't need one. I'm getting one, and maybe you should open a general post just on boat security systems that we can all contribute our ideas and our reviews. Again thanks!
