Alright, I was not going to, but since I got called out.....
Let the games begin ;D

With all the time you spend fishing, you better be entering....... Too bad the sea bass we caught early didn't qualify....mine was 75% of the CT record (7 lbs) and yours at least 70% of the RI record (8.5 lbs).

The RI Taug record is only 21 lbs so you have an advantage!!

I may go after porgy. The CT record is less than 4 lbs. ;D

I'm thinking of going after "green sunfish", NC state record is 1 pound 2 oz.

I am just going fishing, could careless what I catch, if I win great but I got to get this new boat in the water!!

1 week to get in the water, 3 weeks to fish, should be able to get her done!!

Sean
10-07-2007, 10:13 AM
Yeah, I was hoppen to be able to enter a monster stripper, but I've been in slump the last few weeks with nothing worth s picture :-/ ::)
But going black fishing for the 1sttime this year in the morning to start a scout out a few new spots 8)
All else fails, there's always blue fish ;D

Giorgiogd
10-08-2007, 09:03 AM
To late for me to get in, but I have a question. *I see the picture of who won last year, that Fluke was the biggest fish caught? *Nothing bigger, like a Blue, Blackfish, Sea Bass, Weak or Striper? *
Maybe I am missing something, if I am let me know what it is.

macojoe
10-08-2007, 09:19 AM
not alot of people entered last year.

But you could catch the winning fish and it be a 8 oz Sun Fish!!

The winning fish is one that is entered from your state, doesn't matter what kind of fish it is!!

Then what happens is that fish is looked up in the reoard book in your state to see what the largest caught there was.

exsample, you get a 1 pound sun fish, your state record is 2 pound sunfish that means you caught a fish 50% your state record,.

Same goes for everyone else. The person that catches the biggest % of that fish wins

so here in MA 73# striper is largest, so if I entered a 18# bass I only got 25%
You enter a 1 pound sufish and the record is 2# you got 50% and beat me

C YENSEN
10-08-2007, 09:21 AM
maybe not the biggest fish caught, but the biggest fish compared to the state record where Airslot caught it. the tournament is based on percentage of state records, since we are all fishing for different species ;)

read the bottom of the rules ;D

What are the eligible species?

Airslot
10-13-2007, 05:56 PM
SP, any species that the state keeps a record for. The whole contest is done by comparing your catch to the state record because we have guys fishing from Florida to the Great Lakes. We figured that was the most fair way...

On another note, I ran into Brian at Matts the other day. I'm fishing the bayside out of Crisfield tomorrow. Hope I can find something with stripes or spots on it ;)

Sean
10-13-2007, 06:13 PM
Since the RI Record is 21.04lbs this fish gives me under 50% ::) but I'll put it on the board to start things off *;D
Black Fish, 9lbs and change. I have a fish on the scale, and I have a Pic with the sheet, but not both :-/ since I needed to run to work to print of the sheet, so hear she is on the boat with the scale..

Not sure if it is flame retardent shirt, its a Nantucket Electric shirt, my wife found it for me @ the Nantucket dump (Take it or leave it) ;D perfect fising shirt (my new good luck shirt ;) )
I have a wedding to go to now, and its going to be tuff to stay away from the booze, so I can get up and fish in the morning ;D

mine was only 5.0 lbs. but taking a pic, with the sign and tape measure was not that easy. especially since I was by myself. the state record for stipers is 57 lbs so I am under 10% but it was a good day on the water. ;D

Great fish guys!!!!!!!!!!

I think Sean going to sew this up this year!!

A bass from here is useless to enter from here cause thge recoard here is 73 pounds!!!!

With the move, school, work, and having to go to NH for the daughters collage all by the end of the month, I will be lucky to even fish the turny! :-/

CY, I just threw that fish up there because it was the biggest I caught today (actually bigest Black fish this year) Its 25inches and 9.something ponds. *State record is 21 and change so thats only 40something% :-/, *but still a big black fish in my books ;D
MJ, I don't think I'll come close, this year ;D, with my schedule with my wife in school and my daughters, and the Fall weather, my fishing is taking a huge hit :o I'm just practicing for next years contest ;D I hear you with the stripers, State hear is 70 something, I would need a 40+. I'm hoping for a 15lb Black fish (a goal I set earlier this year) ;D

Lance: I think you need to go further south. A decent day at the CBBT and this tourny. would be in the bag. Flounder, Sheepshead, croaker, spot, cobia, tog, stripers, reds. All around still. Go to the CBBT with a cooler full of hard crabs and about a dozen spot and you will win this thing.

I think Skools means DQ (disqualify). and he brings up a pretty good point. We need to see the fish on the scale and be able to READ the scale. We dont need anybody getting pissed because they said their fish weighed something. so from now on. We need to see the scale ;)

I did get out yesterday for blackfishing. Did not do well and nothing close to being in contention. We did get in to some serious bluefish action on the way back. Although, not a winner, the biggest was 8-9 lbs (scale was jumping around a lot). Scale shows 8 lb 5 oz with a state record of 24 lb 13 oz for a score of about 34%. Before I knew it my buddy had slit her neck so I think it lost some weight in blood!! ;)

Blood and guts baby! One of the guys wanted to keep a few and bleeds them out to improve flavor.....Notice the bluefish puke all over the deck.....they were eating peanut bunker like crazy.

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/whalenkm/PICT4565.jpg

Unusual catch of the day was this ~1.5 lb lobster. My hook was actually snagged slightly into her claw. I was going to take it home for my wife but noticed she was full of eggs so she went back in the water.

This weekend was blown out with a decent swell to boot :-/ made attempt to fish Sunday afternoon, had to time my exit leaving the cove as the sets were closing out opening, once we were out side it didn't seem to bad, until we reached the reef, and the swells were standing tall on it, had to give her gas just to get over the top. Finnaly took two big waves right over the wind shield that put over a foot of water in the boat :o decieded to go home a watch the Pats scrimage against the Miami high school team ;D
Did make it out yesterday on the president of my companys 34.5 (he likes to add the .5 ;D) 2006 Persuite, wow what a nice boat. I was invited with the big shots to put them on fish :-X All I can say is, thank heaven for blue fish, we ran into huge schools of blues all day! Came close to loosing my job on that one ;)

Still a week left, and I bet someone (Air ;D) is sitting on a winning fish as we speek.
I havent had a good trip in a few weeks. Wind and swell almost everyday, and the days we have been getting out, the water was so dirty and churned up, you had to really work for a few fish.
I've actually been fishing for schoolie bass in the outflow of the salt pond behind my boat and having a BLAST ;D Using a ultra light set up and just drifting swimmers in the current. Watchin the fish just destroy anything that drifts/swimms by the whole/rock the are hidding in ;)
Hopefully the water cleans up and we can get back on track, but until then its just schoolies for me ;D

Airslot

Air has no fish in the box, and for all intnets and purposes, is done for the tourney. Simply no time with all that I have on my plate at work :'( That said, I'm gonna go play with the schoolie rock Tuesday evening for a few hours. Maybe, just maybe, by dumb luck I'll stumble onto something scale worthy. In all reality, I'm going chasing 18" stripers on light tackle.

Sean, what is "decent size" up your way?

Sean
11-05-2007, 06:09 PM
Anything over 5lbs is a good fish, around 20 inches.
16 inches is a "keeper" in RI, and for a 16inch fish they fight like the dikens ;D

Sean
11-05-2007, 06:15 PM
OH, CY you were talking about Stripers?? Sorry, I thought you were asking about Black Fish.
Anything around 15/20lbs are decent fish... with a few bigger mixed in ;) Shore reports are kept to a minimim until after the run 8)

C YENSEN
11-05-2007, 07:11 PM
WHAT IS THE MINIMUN SIZE LIMIT UP THERE? 28" DOWN HERE

Carl
11-05-2007, 07:32 PM
Stripers up here need to be 28" minimum in CT and RI with a 2 fish limit. CT had messed with slot limits a few years back, 2 -fish limit with 1 between 28" and 40 " and the other greater than 40". I think NY still has something similar. I wish NY, CT and RI would all have one requirement. I could theoretically fish across all three borders within one drift.

Blackfish in CT need only be 14"

Thanks!! ;D Now if I can keep this prize money away from my wife I know exactly were it is going!!

Well its to bad this year between work, weather and family most of us did not get any good shots @ a trophy fish. Maybe next year we can run the contest from May to November ??? This way every one gets a shot @ the large runs of diffrent fish that go threw our areas :o *just a thought *;)
Thanks again!! and Tight Lines!! (Corny line, but I keep using it ;D)
A special thanks to CY for putting this thing together :-*

I wouldn't count on it, I have a feeling things are going to be reel diffrent next year 8) ;D

Thanks again every one, and specially CY for putting everything together.
I bought myself a new setup with the winnings, Shimano Sustain 2500 and hung her on a StCroix 6'medium Power Fast Action 6-12lb stick. I've been lucky because we are having a huge run of stripers and have been able to get quite a few fish with the set up already and even a few for the cooler ;) I love lite tackle dragg screaming fishin ;D
