Anyone ever push the button choke in on an old school mercury while it’s running? I did and she stalled out,  is 5hat normal?

I never tried it but would think that's normal.  I think its just a little solenoid that squirts fuel in?

I have my boat over 25 years and that was the first time I did that. I was curious what would happen ,well I know the choke works.

yes, normal, you're dumping extra gas in it, I do it all the time diagnosing engine issues, if it picks up, you're running lean( carb issue)

Sorry guys I know you all want to help but now that spareparts answered my question I feel 100 percent better knowing that it is normal. Hi spare great to hear from you. I remember that I had a carb issue a while ago and the mechanic said that if I wanted to check it ,push the key /choke in and see if it changes but I forgot what would change.   Hey spare. We /I need a good outboard mechanic here in nj.
