I'm in the market for a v20 and wanted to know what in general to look out for? I would prefer a 1993 to 1996 b/c of the extender on the transom.I am fairly familiar with boats but I wanted some of you expert advise on things I've read in this forum like"soft Floors" and "rotted transoms". One thing I'm not to familiar with is outboards so any advice on how to evaluate would be helpful.

Can I tow a v20 with a 2001 nissan pathfinder (240 hp, 6 cyl, rated to tow 5K)?

thanks for your help.

Scarll...I wouldn't do any long towing w/Pathfinder...if you got just a few miles to ramp, you;ll be fine, but if you got an hour or two(particularly Interstate)...I'm afraid you're gonna prematurely wear a Pathfinder out...I know those things and they are GREAT, but not for towin' this kinda load...

Checkin' out a boat...I like to ease my weight onto a motor tilted in up position(w/out motor-toter)...if the owner freaks out and you hear a lot of cracking noise, then it's probably in need of transom work, and I imagine the extended transom would mean extended $$$ to repair...don't get me wrong...I want one,too...

Compression check on motor is real tell-tale...wouldn't buy one w/ out it...

And it depends on if you're lookin' for one to fix up or if you want to splash it right away...look at fuse box, wiring connections, crawl under boat and see what you see lookin' for cracks, gouges, etc...tap around transom and hull...oops, gotta go...

For checking out a transom, I've always been advised as reelapeelin stated, with the engine tilted up, exert a lot of force on the bottom (prop end) both up and down, and look for flexing or any movement in the transom. There should be none if the transom is good.

As for cockpit floors, just walk around on them; they should feel solid . If you detect soft spots, they are in need of repair.

This is a nice boat. ('95 V-21 in Cape May). I also looked at this boat about a year ago myself, but out of my price affordability range and they would not come down with the price at that time.
