Actually backed her in a couple weeks ago. Several things I want to do to dial this immaculate. last year V-21 in. Hats off to Begreene for taking great care of her during his ownership. It shows. The biggest project will be replacing the wore out rod boxes with pop out storage boxes. Also removed the two middle rod holders that were indexed incorrectly by an owner previous to Bennett. Those two jobs will be handled by my local fiberglass shop just up the road. I will clean up the battery compartment by shortening the overabundance of wiring and assorted hoses. As you guys know there isn't a lot of room back there. Especially with a Group 29 battery. Various hardware will be replaced, deck drains, clamps, etc. I have all but one thru-hull replaced with Groco 316 SS units. Fish box thru-hull should be here Thursday. Lewmar S/S bow roller was installed back in August along with a Windline gripe to keep it secure. I still have to mount the new S/S Perko nav lights bow midship. Nice to have a heated garage to work in during this winter wx! Keep you posted! Dave

Sweet vessel. I had my differences with bgreene but he sure kept a nice boat! Well, other than those thru hulls. LOL

Enjoy your projects. Springtime won't be able to come soon enough for you!

I remember changing out those deck drains, what a PIA. No way to get where u gotta get to get it right. At least those rod box cut outs look far enough toward the stern to get at them.

Hard to tell from photo. Does the fuel cell cavity have a removable deck section on the V21

Where did you get the 90* deck drains?

dmoore

Phat the rod boxes openings extend rearward enough to easily do what you need to do. I believe the port side deck drain or floor is lower than the thru hull. However, the height of the opening on deck is enough to allow it to drain with a bit of water always in the assy.

The fuel tank can be removed by cutting the soft patch. Wellcraft was smart utilizing a plastic tank in lieu of aluminum. No drastic temp changes with plastic VS aluminum which means no condensation or very, very little.

The 90-degree deck drains are factory originals. The plastic fitting above deck is thin and they crack over time. I sourced a pair from West Marine and just used the above deck pieces. The threaded male portion could have been just a little longer since the elbow below deck has only a few threads started in it. I used 3M 4200 on all threads to help seal everything and give it a little more rigidity. 4200 was used on all 5 thru hulls as well.

Shifted my attention to the original factory 27 year old wiring today. Found several highly corroded wires that turned to dust when touched. Bilge pump wiring was one. Pulled them all out and installed new correct color (brown) lead from multi connector stbd side aft. Removed excess/older wiring. Neatened everything up with neoprene lined SS clamps and wire ties.

I was kind of embarrassed by her outwardly appearance, so I took some time to address that.

Brings back memories of when I decided to clean out wiring from a few generations of electronics in my V-20. Two Saturdays and two 5 gallon buckets nearly full of old wire. What a difference all cleaned out, terminal blocks not corroded any more and new wires and connections done with waterproof heat shrink ends. Very satisfying.

It's a good feeling when you're out on the water knowing that its done. And the plus side is if you have a problem, it will be a whole lot easier to find and correct.

Reel nice, looks perfect the new boats today don't even come close the the V20 or 21 they are Absolutly perfect boats. Is that a 96 or 95. What was the last year?

Yep, I bought it from him back in March when he put it up for sale to buy an 88 23ft Formua. Remember I sold my 1rst pristine V-21 back in spring 2012 like an idiot. Last year or so I have been wanting to correct that mistake. Timing was great. This one is close to the one I had but a tad under. I bought mine from the original owner down in Spartanburg, S C. who used it less than 150 hrs on a reservoir. I posted it in the V-21 gallery after I bought it 2005 I think.

Sorry bgreene but I like your V21 much better
Bgreene You got a very nice V21. It I mean she looks new. You had one and sold it? And yours was nicer? I would have loved to see pics of that one (yours) your new,old V from Greene looks perfect. I could go on and on and on but that just shows you how much I love the V20,21. Great looking boat. Much nicer than the ones today. I would love to get mine in that condition but I bet it cost a lot of money and mine is a 78 and in pretty good shape I covered her today and still LOVE that boat
When I'm fishing there could be 100 boats on the water and I could pick out the wellcraft v20 instantly Love that boat.

My old one pictured in link below was probably the best V-21 in existence. There were no modifications. no holes drilled anywhere, and the FULL enclosure was never installed on the boat ever until after I bought it.

dmoore
12-11-2023, 01:34 PM
I can't even remember why I sold it at this point. Was it a mistake? yes...I knew about Bennett's boat since 2010. My older one was a better boat with buying it from the original owner used on fresh water. I am the 4th owner of the current one. Each owner has done their part keeping it in fantastic condition. However, none of the previous owners are as anal as I. As I stated, Reelapelin here on the forum posted about it here and I just followed up.

So after trying to locate the live well light/harness assy I finally succeeded today. I knew the boat was optioned with it because the circuit breaker & switch are present. I guess at some point during these last 27 years it had come loose from the lens housing attached to live well and had fallen down and under driver's seat box. I fished it out and got it to light the bulb after a good cleaning of the contacts. The housing to which the bulb end attaches to has male threads maybe 1 1/2" in diameter. I believe I am still missing another piece. Would like to know if anyone with a V-21 and this option could shed more light? I know the only way to see this area is with the stbd rod box removed so I understand the reluctancy do so. I neglected to snap a pic of the housing/lens assy but will do so tomorrow.

Bgreene doesn't need to go through Captcha - that is only for new members.
Some time back I sent Bgreene a note letting him know I reset his password, supplied the password, gave him my phone number etc. Maybe I have the wrong email but it is the one he registered with originally. At any point he is ready he either already has what he needs to log in or he can shoot me and IM or phone call.

Absolutely gorgeous. Whatever you’re spending to make that into a probably better than new boat is a lot les than the cost of a new boat. And you have a so much nicer boat. For one thing you don’t have one of those “euro” transoms that are shaped to help a large following wave scoot up and swamp you.
