Did anyone paint the teak hatches on the deck, the two teak access panels.

Teak is an oily wood. Getting paint to adhere might be difficult. I think most people just let it weather or they stain and seal it every few years.

That's what we do, sand, stain and seal it every year with marine varnish.

Thanks guys, I just wanted some else's opinion cause the teak hatches are weathered and every two years I have to stain them so I was thinking about painting them but as you recommend , stain them and leave them stained, what I will do is make another set out of differant type of wood and paint them.

I redo my teak every 6 years or so, sometimes 10 years. Sand i clean the 2 coats of cetol stain and the 3 coats of cetol clear gloss. Holds up well under the florida sun
I do know people who got tired of staining and refinishing mahogany on a 13 ft whaler so they sanded smooth and painted with awlgrip.
Looked great, but no idea how it held up
I personally like the look of the teak on the V, gives it that nautical flair

So I'm taking my panels in the garage and sanding and staining .
