Can anyone confirm that Wellcraft built the older V20's with Stainless Bow Rails ?
.
Brochure I've seen states that the Rails were Stainless, BUT mine appear to be Aluminum, with Zamak Rail Fittings. Just like the Cockpit Railings.

All my Rail Fittings and Cleats are the crappy Zamak, and are ALL pitted Badly.

Only thing Stainless on the boat is the Steering Wheel, and the Bow and Stern Eyes, and the Lift Eye on the Bow Deck.

ALL Looks Original !!

Was this common back then ?

Thanks, Charlie

Too Bad your in SC. Very long drive from NJ.
Too big to ship, and $$.

Is yours welded, or does it has separate fittings ?

Damn. I left a welded one behind when we moved several years ago. I know I have a 2 piece one out in back of my house, but I'm not sure of the material. I think it's Stainless but have to check. :head: I'll post here tomorrow if anyone's interested.

Sorry for the delay. Yes, the one I have is SS steel. It's NOT welded and the fittings that mount it to the deck are zmack, or whatever that crappy chrome plated "metal" is. The rail parts are free to whoever wants it.

For stainless rail fittings (and a bunch of other marine stainless), if you’re willing to risk the occasional not perfect match of identical fittings, marinepartdepot.com has provided me with quite a few nice fittings at VERY good prices. They used to be always on sale “Today”, but today never ends. I replaced all of my lousy plated/corroded fittings with their stuff.

Sorry Step, CMK245 responded here first and also sent me a PM. So he gets first shot. You're second in line. :( I'll keep you advised if it becomes available again.

A clarification: by not perfect match, I didn’t mean the rail wouldn’t fit, just that a couple of the rail bases I got weren’t configured exactly the same. No one has ever noticed and I can’t recall which ones they were, so I guess it wasn’t a very big deal.

Ok, pulled the rails out of the scrap pile. Indeed they are SS and they are front bow rails, but one is bent and they are for a bowrider (I think) they were never meant to be joined at the center. Always had a gap in the front. Not for a V20 (although I do think they might fit nicely). But like I said, the one rail has a slight bend. I think it can be straightened, but ????

Thank for checking, But I will have to Pass on them.
Having Vehicle problems (Front Hubs), so could not get this weekend anyway.
Was trying to figure out how to fit in a Malibu 4-door, anyway.

See if "StepliftV20" is still interested.

Mine IS solid across front., Just Aluminum.
Attached is Photo of my V20

Thanks D !!

I have a '78 bow rail - 1 piece. I am located near Mystic CT. I double check if it is stainless, but I'm confident it is.
