With the fluke season closed and owners of small to midsize boats up to 25 feet what do we fish for? Just search for life I guess.
Stripers are still out there as well as bluefish....

We have 7 more day's but the Fluke fishing has been terrible this season, we were done a while ago. We go out and fish for Porgies for fun, even that has been slow in the bay, but we're starting to pick up Black fish in our usual Porgy spots and that's a good sign. What we're really waiting for is Oct. 15, the start of our Black fishing.

If you get flat weather you can run to the Shark River reef. (roughly 20 miles from Manasquan or Shark River inlets)
There's ling and porgies and you can keep 2 winter flounder (they are big out there). You can keep 1 blackfish. Have to throw back sea bass until Oct 8 but you will know where they are when it starts...
There are lobster pots just east of there holding some dolphin and last year small bluefins showed up in October.
Along the beach... my photo albums show that the first keeper bass show on the 15th of October but it usually doesn't get good until well into November.
I suppose drifting a live bunker in the schools always has potential for bass. There have been a few nice cobia caught that way in Ocean county waters.

oh...also...the mullet run is on in Manasquan River and we're catching short stripers, bluefish and hickory shad on my dock at night on a running tide
Bass are gettin pretty thick off Hoffmans with the outgoing tide, shad are moving in too, perfect for a 20' well craft
