Got up @ 3:30 to see this...1.5 hr drive, ready boat, get bait...this about half way of 10 mile run to fishin' hole
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/reelapeelin/IMGP0593.jpg
...runnin' about 40...
First hour and a half, lookin' BLEAK...can't find 'em...no sign no trace...Hartwell only 1,000 miles of shoreline...we look some more...find some birds; they're only hovering, not feedin'...several loons, but this place the most promising, so we put bait in the water...two largemouths 1.5 and 8 lbs...OK...then it starts...all around us...feedin' fish...w/5 lines in the water, sometimes can't get to all the bent rods...in less than 2 hrs we boated and released 25-30 stripers and hybrid...it was a Chinese Fire Drill!! :o
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/reelapeelin/IMGP0598.jpg
This one of the small hybrid:the action had just slowed enough to get a pic...we had tossed back many of these twice as big as the one above...
...and for good measure, a coupla 10-12 lb stripes
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/reelapeelin/IMGP05952.jpg
If ya know what "Striper Thumb" is, both of us got a pretty good case ;)

Oh yeah man, pretty fish pretty! * That last pic is the bomb. * Got him in the planer eh?
Nice work and thanks for the pics...DAWG!
Ifn you don't mind a feller askin, what depth they be bitin in rite now? * Is it best to use small threadfin herring or med. to large gizzard shad? *That is what I have access to in numbers with my net at my dock on High Rock. * ;)

Good eyes on the planer board, BR ;) ...I love 'em, even though they're a PIA, they ''reach out and touch" fish you'd never see w/ out 'em...some guys'll pull 6 at a time...too cluttered for me...I pull 4 flat-lines, all w/ hook and herring only, puttin' outside two on planers...makes things manageable when the Fire-Drill starts ;) ...
...but at Lake Cherokee in TN, those fish will not hit flat-lines...only hit down-lines...1.5 oz. barrel-sinker, swivel and 5' leader ...up there, we net Gizzards and the stripes reely love 'em ... we buy Blue-Back Herring here...striper-candy!! ... so the idea is, yer gonna hafta try both at High Rock to see what's gonna work best ;) ... but all this is reason for Elec Trollin' Motor, unless ya got a perfect wind and can drift :D ...
You need to come down... 8) ...

Nice fish there RAP, having them over for dinner tonight.
Turbo...didn't mean to ignore ya...I knew this would take a little time...
Wish I could invite 'em to dinner!!...30-40 years ago, Hartwell became contaminated w/ PCBs :'( ... accidental release into tributary upstream...lots of people eat 'em...nobody glowin' green and no elevated health issues around the lake, but I choose not to eat 'em...DNR regularly monitors and issues warnings...multi-million dollar solutions have been talked about for years, but no action yet ... fish are perfectly healthy and grow up to 60 lbs, water's clear and beautiful ... PCBs heavy and sink/stay on bottom in limited areas...we regularly ''play and fish" on this wonderful lake, but I'm just not gonna take the chance w/ my children ... great big-fish lake 8) ...
...when I go "meat-fishin", that's a trip to Lake Murray or Clark Hill ;) 8) ...

Hey that's a shame on the contamination...I know that all too well. *Here at High Rock we were contaminated with Mercury from our local Duracell plant many years ago so its basically as you described above...I've never eaten a High Rock fish ever. * I do think I would eat a few crappie if I ever get around to it.
Keep on doing whatcha doin there Striper King ;)

SCDNR says OK to eat fish from Hartwell w/ following provisions:
Eat fish under 5 lbs
Remove all skin and fat
Don't eat fish caught in contaminated area (Seneca River)...and there's the problem...these stripes are highly migratory ... on the move constantly and can travel from one end of lake to the other...
Like I said...meat fish from another lake... ;) ...
