I was going to buy flares for my gun cause all of mine are expired, when I looked at the new ones at Walmart they say they expire 2020 ,that's only two years ,I thought they should be a lot longer than that, so what I'm asking is if you buy new flares how long should they be before they expire? I'm thinking they could have been on there shelve along time, what do you guys know about them

Check with West Marine, Boaters World, iBoats or any online source for marine equipment. (Usually) they have the most recent stock. :head:

Even at West Marine, look thru the entire display and find the newest ones. Always a mix.....

Unfortunately... true. They need to get rid of present stock, so like the bread in the grocery store it pays to look at dates. :head:

As for disposal of your expired flares, most counties have a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection program. You should be able to have them properly disposed of either at a collection event or a permanent drop off center.

I like to light 'em up before I dispose of them.

It helps that they make the exp dates so easy to read

i'm with pipe, the handheld are great for starting pallet fires and the aerial are great on the 4th of july

I’m not opposed to putting them to good use, shenanigans or otherwise. I had to mention it though as a fella in the area tried to use an expired flare in an emergency situation and ended up with a hole in his stomach.
