Ocean - on the bow, while pulling in anchor line in chop...
Saw set in time to think oops, as part of wave came over, soaking me and splashing up over the windshield .
Learned not to do it that way in a chop.

I've done it more than once, but the most memorable was in the Cooper River, Daufuskie Island on a chilly February day a few years ago. Took friends to a place there for food and drink and while we'd been enjoying ourselves a strong northeast wind had set up against the tide which flows strong through the river. We left the dock and were idling out into the channel and the waves were getting larger as I increased power. One was much larger than the others and the bow went under and a wall of water came right up over the windshield. No top on the boat because we were trying to make the most of the sunshine, so nothing to divert it from us. Soaked him and me from the waist down, and the girls who were seated in the stern from the knees down, and it took a while for all the water to exit through the scuppers. That water was COLD.

The second time in took mine out we were coming back in from a day of fishing tide was going in wind was going out made for an interesting time. When we started getting closer to land and the shallows a big catamaran ferrie came around an island and straight towards us the wake it gave off was nasty. I bet it was in the ten foot plus range and close together the third one I went up I didn’t quarter it good enough and slammed down the other side seeing nothing but green water go over the windshield I thought we were done. The next waves got smaller thankfully all the extra water on the floor run out the through hulls along with what came out of my pants.
