I put a multimeter to my battery's to check against the gauge , I started my engine,(my battery volts were 12.4 before I ran the engine) When I started it the volts went up to 14.6 as the engine was running, my question is this, is that normal ? I thought it should go up to 13.6 Thanks for any replys, oh and on the gauge it's still in the green

You're fine. Fully charged batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts.

14.6 is fine. You would be SKEERED if you ever seen how high voltage got on the smaller non regulated charging systems. Most outboards with a charging system up to 7-8 amps was just a rectifier with no regulator. Those systems can get up over 16 volts with a completely charged battery. You had to check the water level in the battery often with them.

14.6 is fine, just check your water every few months to replace any that boils out.
