Just proves what I've said many times.... Some people just should not be allowed to own a boat. :head:

Destroyer,
You sure are 100% correct!

Gotta ask, is this boat a total loss. I have zero knowledge of what the ramifications of this action is. I realize the ice will expand and put pressure on the hull. Also notice it is an I/O, so is that toast also. Is there any chance the ice will just melt and all is good, or is this the way it sits until spring.

Like all things in life, there are just too many variables to fully understand the ramifications until a full inspection is done. How much pressure was put on the hull, how thick was the ice, was the I/O up or down, etc.

But since the engine was obviously not drained, the chances of a cracked block are pretty good. The vinyl upholstery will probably be cracked, water will have found it's way into the foam, etc, etc. I mean, it's possible that she escaped without any damage, but highly unlikely. Such a waste.

I bet this boat was left/abandoned at the marina. The owner of the marina will have to go through the proper channels to get a clear title to junk it or sell it.

it will sink as soon as the ice melts enough

That's terrible! How could anybody let that happen? Where's it located?

Not good to leave the docks in either...

If it a 170 I/O and closed cooling system the block may be ok but probably froze the heat exchanger and maybe busted the riser. Hope it had plenty of antifreeze in it. I just cant see how anyone could leave it like that! My old V is wrapped up snug as a bug and winterized two months ago!

Why wouldn't the marina have pulled the boat

The marina doesn't have it's own ramp so the boat would have to be towed to the local ramp. Then put on a trailer which may or may not be registered. Too much liability ??

Can't you run the registration numbers and find out who owns it? I'd like to rebuild another I/O V20, wish it was closer!

Forty.... What marina was this at.... I may have to take a ride and check it out

I wonder if the owner passed and his family doesn't know the boat is there or even exist?

I spoke with the marina owners and they said that the boat owner was told to remove it. I bet it's abandon. Probably end up in a dumpster on the rough end of a backhoe.

Still floating even after 4 major nor-easters battered the marina in early March.

If it has a heat exchanger and it wasn’t drained and it froze, there’s around $500+ if they know where to buy it or around $1000 from Mercury. I unfortunately had that experience -I didn’t leave the boat in the water but it froze without being drained. Could have bought some nice other stuff with that money. :embarsed:

The boat is in New Bedford at Whaling City Marina. The owner of the marina tried to get the boat owner to pull it out but he paid up front for winter dockage. Pretty sure it was never winterized. Now I need to go back into this forum and look at what needs to be done to add a bracket to this boat.............:sly:

Too many projects and not enough time or $$$$$$$

going to have to swing by and check it out. how the hell did it not sink? Bilges work when frozen and jammed with ice?
