If memory serves me correctly it was back in the 70's (1976?) the last time BB was frozen. It was so thick that people were driving out onto it in their cars.
Several cars went thru the ice near Pelican Isle including a brand new station wagon that a teen borrowed from his grandmother. It was really kinda scary to be out on the ice skating and hear the ice cracking from the tides going in and out... but the ice was a foot or more thick in most places, so no real danger .... but I'll always remember that bit about the new car going thru the ice.

It is 6 degrees here, which is very rare. We usually have one or two nights each winter in the high teens, 6 of the next 10 nights is forecasted to be in the teens, highs barely making it to freezing...guess I shouldn't have made fun of you guys up north winterizing.
