Need A New Fuel Tank For My 87' V20 O/B

Greeting! Well it's time for a new fuel tank :/ Can I purchase one with the exact same specs as the old one anywhere online? My boat mechanic has a buddy who can build me one but they move very slow down where I keep my boat and they charge us "come here's" extra it seems. If any one can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated! And a early HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!

Tanks are foamed in.
They vary by model and year.
as far as I know...You won't find an exact replacement off the shelf.

You may find an off the shelf Moeller poly tank that fits BUT...
be careful to look at where the filler/vent/pickup/sender are compared to where your originals are.

Aluminum 60 gallon V bottom belly tanks are about $500 (+or- $100) to have made. Best to find a local guy because shipping is a killer.

Search this site for threads and tags regarding fuel tanks. Its all been said before.
There are pix and drawings and lots of comments and advice. After you take a look at that, then by all means ask questions.

can probably get one from the OEM supplier in perry florida. RDS , i think, is the name of the company. i got one 3-4 years ago, was $425. heard they've gone up to around $500.

I just had one shipped to me the week of Christmas. Bought mine from reds in Perry they had it in stock. Only took two days to get to me. Tank was $575 and shipping was another 100 bucks. I live in north Fl so not sure how much it would cost to ship that far though...

I had one made at Atlantic Coastal Welding in Bayville NJ ( aka www.speedytanks.com) about 10 years ago $500. Used thicker stock and more baffles than original.

I sent them the measurements and pictures and they made an exact copy for me. It was shipped direct to me. I will look around and get you some more info and pictures. I was very happy with their work..

My mechanic got the old one out in 2 1/2 hours with the help of an engine hoist. Having a new one made locally in Reedville, VA. He put the hatch back and I gave her a quick coat of paint--want her to look half way decent with friends on board. I can fish while the tank is being built--have 20 gal tank in the forward locker. He also replaced the old drains with brass fitting and new hoses. He are a few pics.

looks good, i gotta paint my deck again, i keeep putting it off. how are u going to fasten down the new tank. i went with mechanical fastners, not foam. wanted all the air i could get to circulate down there.

I'm going to let my mechanic decide how he wants to secure it he's done plenty. Check out the Rustoleum marine paint (topside) around $17 a quart on Amazon. It's very inexpensive compared to other deck/topside type paints. Went on super smooth and dried incredibly fast. One quart was plenty with lots left over for second coat, I really like this paint! I used Battleship grey it matched what I last painted it with.

On the issue of the drains, one thing I haven't heard anyone suggest/talk about. Go to ACE or HD or Wal-Mart or just about any hardware store and buy a set of grain strainers (the kind that fit into your sink drain at home) and put one in each of your drains. They have a large mesh screen and are perfect for catching fish scales, guts, twigs, and just about anything that would normally get caught in your drains. When they get clogged just pull them out and tap them upside down to get rid of the debris. Cheap fix to an old problem. That would be really functional! My mechanic was hell bent on brass though and they were pretty expensive but cutting the new hole flush with the deck, etc was a bit of a job!
