You know how ford introduced the new mustang and dodge reintroduced the challenger and Chevy reintroduced the camaro wouldn't it be great if wellcraft reintroduced the steplift? Just think a brand new 1978 steplift Wow that's what I'm talking about

I wonder how well it would be received with all the competition out there.
From what I understand Wellcraft didn't want to pay Ray Hunt for continued use of the design. Seems the patent lease or whatever it's called ran out in 1996 and Ray Hunt wanted more $$$.
Closest thing out there now is maybe a Dusky.

Put them side by side and you'll find the actual hull of the dusky is virtually identical to a V-20. Seen 2 side by side in a marina before, and if it wasn't for the name plates, you wouldn't have been able to tell them apart.

I like a Dusky, a little more bare bones which I like, and for a new one pretty reasonable compared to others. I really like the 23s which they call a 25 now with the bracket.
Saw an old salty one ride by 2 days ago with an old school Suzuki 225 2 stroke and thought of you Ferm.

That one is a modernized Bertram 25 hull.

That one is a modernized Bertram 25 hull.
All designed by the famous C Raymond Hunt; Bertram, Whaler, Steplift, Grady....
A timeless hull, beautiful, seaworthy...

Marty Niemiec has a Surfhunter that he runs back in forth to Cuttyhunk Island.
I have seen that boat make the trip to New Bedford from Cuttyhunk on days that we didn't want to move our 35 Bertram while on a mooring at Cuttyhunk. Of course we were on vacation with a full cooler and plenty to eat......so why leave!
Either way a testament to Ray Hunt design!
Who's who.......sorry left out some details of who is Niemiec Marine

The NR 21 is literally built the next door down from my office. It's a nice looking hull...very deep for a 21.
I have noticed a few coming back in to their shop and I don't know why. Not sure how many have been built to date-not many I don't think-and I am worried they may be coming back to the mother ship due to delam.
While the hull looks nice, the topside workmanship-IMO-seems to be a bit lacking.
Again, just my opinion, and I have seen very few out and about...so I am not quite sure what is up with this design. But I have been keeping an eye out for them. Could be some growing pains...

That's bad news for them, sorry to hear, and they are not cheap! Great to get some feedback from someone in the know. I have only admired from a computer monitor, never seen one in person.

Update...just heard this week they have filed for bankruptcy...too bad.
Beautiful looking hull.
But, this is not unusual....several boat builders in this area have been reincarnated many times!
Stay tuned...
