Beautiful day today, mid 70's, with light southerly winds. hadn't had the boat out in a couple of weeks, decided to go for it. no real plan, just get out. took a couple of light trolling rigs just because you never know. saw some bait being chased and dragged a couple of spoons through the area. ended up with 5 or 6 of these guys. this is about 4 weeks early water temp is 65*, never really got cold, so maybe spring has sprung.

Catch and release, greyduk. Except for one who was severely throat hooked, so he went in the freezer for grouper bait this summer.

man, a perfect day would be 6 or 8 of those on my ultralight setup, on a nice sunny day. don't take much.

I catch and release too, but I release them in some grease and serve with some garlic cheese grits. Maybe we could make a trip later this spring and see what we could snag. Good luck. Hope your weather holds out for a few more trips in the next couple of weeks.

Yea, I messed up by not drifting into the school and casting a small spoon with a light spinning rod. Normally there are boats trolling in the area and if you drift, it gets in everybody's way. I had it all to myself saturday afternoon, so drifting was not a problem. I really was not expecting them to be here yet. My son is working midnights, so maybe when he gets off, we can go a little better prepped.

Thats alot better than I did yesterday. Didn't boat a single fish all day. I normally fish out of Chassahowitzka, but they had a tournament Saturday, so Sunday was a bust there. All those boats tore the river and shallow flats a new one. There was so much seabed grass everywhere it was sickening. Flats I was on a few weeks ago were basically sand bottom yesterday with all the grass floating. Should have went south away from the tournament, but I prefer Chass.

From one, but I think you're thinking of the one that's 3 hours to the south of me

I wasn't aware there was more than one. the one near cape coral. I gotta tell you i'm really leaning towards looking for a little place on the water down there. it looks nice and quiet. first I need to find out if my place in delray has a place to store a trailer boat.

My soon to be brother in law runs a charter business down in that area(he fishes out of Estero Bay). If they don't get a handle on the Lake Okechobee discharge, property values on the water are going to continue to plummet. The red tide and algae blooms down there is horrible.
