I am inheriting my dad's 1988 v20 fisherman cc. It is in great shape. 310 hours and it has been in dry storage since he bought.
It needs new hatches or needs them repaired. Other than that the 2003 Evinrude 175 needs some maintenance. It has been getting oil in the transom and drinks a lot of oil.
Any suggestions? Thanks. Also a buddy is redoing the gel coat this Fall and hopefully the hatches.
The oil issue makes me nervous...

Already dark. Really good shape. One very small bad corner of fiberglass.

I like it!! Those motors are great, well when they aren't having problems like you are. Hopefully nothing major.

Thank you. Motot has been good. Even if "limping a little". Had it running about 36 mph at 5000 rpm for a moment this morning.

What exactly do you mean by oil in the transom?

All around the bilge pump. Pretty fair amount. Been that way for a few years oddly enough. My dad just went with it and put more oil in it. When I get it on a trailer I may get it serviced. It hasn't had a check up in while.

So what's in the bilge that holds oil.
I had that issue one time, looked for split hoses, loose cap on tank, etc. turned out to be a spare gallon I carry under the starboard hatch had rubbed a hole in the container and was migrating to the bottom of the bilge

Thanks. Will check that. Not sure the lines have ever been replaced. Planning on doing that this Fall along with the fuel lines. Thoughts on replacing the tank?

Looks like the oil line might run through there

Could be a bad leak or just a greasy bilge that needs degreasing. If you keep her in the water she never fully drains. Pulling her out and tilt her up and run a hose into the forward bilge and see what comes out. You can disconnect your bilge float switch and squirt some dawn dish soap in there and fill the bilge with water, maybe 6 inches deep and take her for a spin sloshing it around to get more out.

Had fun with it on the water in Perdido Bay. It was pretty choppy. After reading around I ran it around 4000 rpm going and coming and she took the choppy water much better.

I am pretty ignorant. Any need to empty oil before adding XD50? Thanks

I mixed synthetic with my regular oil when I started using synthetic with my Yamaha and had no issues. Not saying you won't but I didn't. Eventually you'll get all synthetic in there.
