Hello everyone... I just got done using the 3M Compound & Finishing Material (picture attached) and it made my 1987 v20 look fricken almost new!!! Very impressed with the product.

I am wondering... what's the best wax I can use to protect it now? The internet is filled with answers, but i always like to hear what you all have to say.

If you could post a picture that would be great. I had someone attempt to detail my 87 cuddy, but it didn't come out that good. It was/is oxidized a lot, so I would like to see how yours came out. Mine is shiny in places but streaky in places. Thanks.

Will do when I get after it this weekend.

I've used the maguires boat and rv in the past seems like good stuff. Here lately been using colonite and have been happy with it also. Don't think it maters much as long as it's a good wax.

I clean the hull with Marine 31 Heavy Cut Gel Coat Cleaner-Wax. Then, I lay a coat of Colinite No 845 Insulator Wax. Love that Colinite wax. It leaves a super-slick finish and the water just runs off like you wouldn't believe. I use the Colinite Insulator Wax on my vehicles too. I try to get a layer of wax on my cars in October and I still have a good bead in the spring.

For the crazy best shine......just 2 steps

1. 3M # 05996 Machine Polish............damp ( not wet ) wool applicator, slow speed buffer approx. 4' sections at a time. Take your time, pattern the buffer across, then up down re covering the same areas. Wipe off excess, and move to next section.
When entire hull is done, just wash the hull off with hose and car soap. Don't waste time and energy buffing.

THEN apply.................

2. Un Finish Car Polish ( orange container )
Hand apply with clean, damp rag, liberally - meaning don't be cheap with it...
Do a section, then hand buff off with clean T shirt or such cotton ....
If you want, then do a light wipe of entire hull with a separate slightly damp rag to remove any excess etc.

WOW - your boat will shine like crazy!!
People will say, holly SH, that shine is SICK !!!

And, best of all the Nu Finish lasts longer than ANYTHING I've tried, and I've tried all kinds of products from pure Carnuba to other crap available.

3-6 months later, just another light application of the Nu Finish to keep it going.

Ok guys and fellow wellcraft owners, I own my baby for over 20 years and I think I finally found out how to use color restorer, you know the stuff the brings back some of ghetto shine lost to the sun and everything else out there, ok this is what I found out, I used to put it on and wait for it to haze then rub rub rub it off and you can see marks on the gellcoat so what I find was I put it on and wiped it off, worked out great Try it and let me know if I'm right or as usual wrong again but it worked for me

I recently heard about cleaning, deoxidizing then applying an oil to finish and rehydrate the surface and slow down the oxidation process. Actually heard motor oil...tried a large area on mine with mineral oil buffed out...WOW!

The guy I heard this from has been finishing his Whaler w/oil for 20+ years and the detail pictures are AWESOME...

An old guy rubbed an old plow truck at my job with ATF. He said that they used to do it all the time. Thing looked half decent for a little while.

Wax is the worst thing to use . Look at a surf board the wax builds up turns yellow - same thing happens to a boat ! Clean the pain buff the hell out of it - 3m over rated - McGuires does just as good job and costs a lot less - finish with ultimate paint guard plus - 2 coats 12 hrs apart - then see what u think of wax - oh yeah use it on aluminum and glass -
